Well, the article there (or indeed the topic of the talk) didnt match the headline. I thought this was going to be an article from europe about all the checks and balances the conservatives are removing and how lots of rights are being removed whilst we look the other way

Igneococcus · 20/12/2021 07:33

Fascism is another one of those terms that lost all meaning due to overuse.

A lecture from the Europeans on fascism. Where would that come from, Berlin or Nurenberg ?.
BusBusBus · 20/12/2021 07:44

You will miss your right to protest and the option to use judicial review when its gone.
Even if you dont feel people in europe are on a position to point it out.

KimikosNightmare · 20/12/2021 07:48

Is " rainy Fascism" different from ",dry Fascism" or "snowy Fascism"?

highame · 20/12/2021 07:55

I live in the South, it's less rainy, so we might be "changeable but moderate Fascism". I do wish they's would start to bring realism into they's arguments rather than buckets full of hyperbole (see what I did there Grin)

The uk is the United Kingdom of GB and NI making it islands

Someof us are concerned about this, there is a thread about it in Feminism Chat.

Why can't I say that TRAs call the Uk terf island? As a gc feminist, I'm clearly not the one name-calling us.

Is there? A shame, I never even bother visiting Feminist Chat these days. They should merge the boards again.

LondonWolf · 20/12/2021 10:27

Dear me, I’m not sure 🤔

I wonder what all those people who want to come and live and work here think?

nauticant · 20/12/2021 10:28

It'll probably be the T-word:

www.mumsnet.com/i/trans-rights-moderation-policy

Likewise, many feminists are affronted by the term ‘cis’ and ‘terf’, so using these terms will make civil debate less likely. As we’ve said, context is everything – but our moderation team will most likely delete these expressions if we feel they're being used in a deliberately inflammatory way.

Even if not used in an inflammatory way it can attract a deletion.

I'm with you Arabella. The fight that really needs fighting is on this board.

No you don't understand, Igneococcus. Fascism does have a clear and specific 21st-century meaning. It means anything I don't like but I can't give a good argument as to why (and you'll literally kill me if you ask for reasons or evidence).

ArabellaScott · 20/12/2021 15:21

There's lots of fights, Aunty. They all need fighting, sadly. I just can't be doing hanging out on a board where anyone who puts a foot wrong by mentioning the G word is going to get ridiculed, insulted or reported.

Always thought the whole point of feminism was 'sex and gender' so I still can't really see what isn't applicable to the title of this board.
