Senator Keoghan is one of the few public representatives who has spoken up in defence of women and girls.
Last year several organisations such as the National Council for Women and Amnesty Ireland were signatories of a letter that sought to deny political representation for women with Gender Critical views.

Not for the first time, women in Ireland are being told that they are simply not important.

. Senator Keogan had this response. " It is a sad snapshot of today's politics, where both government and "Opposition" politicians sing from the same hymn sheet when it comes to issues of major societal importance. It shows up their attitude towards open debate and free speech, when they collude to freeze independent voices out of the debate, as they do not think their own opinions should be subject to challenge." The Senator has been vocal in highlighting the widespread concern over the presence of harmful ideologically driven teaching materials being introduced to schools by activist NGO groups on gender identity. In addition, the issue of safe access to female only spaces, bathrooms, changing rooms, etc has been raised by the Senator who pointed out that " a lack of clarity as to the definition of gender and of sex has led to a position whereby obtaining a Gender Recognition Certificate to change gender in Ireland results in someone even a man who has not had any surgery or hormones and does not intend to, being able to access all female only spaces as if they were a woman. Senator Keogan continued "We will now have a Committee on Gender Equality whose members' views on gender have no basis in biology and whose wholesale belief in gender ideology will hamper any chance of addressing multiple serious issues facing women in Ireland today." /ENDS.

Thank you. It's a shocking state of affairs that she's been frozen out. Doesn't say much for the rest of the committee members that they cannot tolerate any opinion that is not their own.

You'd think there would be some mechanism for oversight and governance of committees to ensure proper procedure and representation or some authority of the Oireachtas to which she could appeal. I hope there is some public form of protest about it.

well it worked last time, men get their way by shouting and being violent so I guess we have to do the same again, its the only way anything gets done that and strikes, men look after your own kids for a change.

This is ridiculous when there have been plenty of people in Irish politics, and of course voters, who didn’t/don’t support various gay rights. If they weren’t denied a place or representation, why should a GC person be?

(Not that GC people don’t support trans rights - they are misrepresented that way for not believing in an ideology. But even if they didn’t, that’s fine when it comes to homosexuality)

This is so infuriating, they will not tolerate someone with a different opinion. They are basically riding roughshod over our rights, and not stopping to hear any concerns or criticisms.

Well, I hope, when the clouds lift, they'll be proud of themselves and able to look the people they are damaging in the eye.

I just cannot fathom how someone, such as Ivana, who declares herself a feminist can support gender ideology. Just looking at current threads on here. Cases where a 13 year old girl had a double mastectomy and a male swimmer is smashing records in the female category, at the expense of women. How can any rational person, least of all a self described feminist, support this?
