This is very unfortunate, democracy depends on trust in government, in law and order, in the media and in our neighbours. For democracy to function and to continue we have to believe that our institutions and fellow citizens are for the most part imbued with integrity and will generally do the right thing. I suppose the undermining of this trust and the diminishing of the value of integrity must be key goals of all enemies of democracy.
