Quite the oversight in their original guidance. HOWEVER they have put up a swift apology and are pulling it and sorting it out.

I feel a shift…

How they felt compelled to write such guidance without mentioning women in the first place is a concern, despite their apology.

Cailin66 · 02/12/2021 11:55

Good, excellent in fact. Forthright apology too. In clear language.

I quite agree. I do appreciate that it should never have happened but I want to support them in doing the right thing not lambast them for falling for the woke shite.

If stuff happens 'accidentally' - eg by outsourcing content creation, this is how to apologise and deal with it. No nonsense, no blather, just apologise and say what they're doing to resolve it.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 02/12/2021 11:59

I don’t think they would have said that line about erasure publicly even 6 months ago. Definite shift.

ArtemesiaK · 02/12/2021 12:00

Seems like they've listened to concerns and thought about it, which is a start.....

Excellent point OP. We need to enable the science / facts / biology based individuals in these Stonewall captured organisations to see that it's worth challenging the women haters.

Well done to the RCM for having the courage to stand up for women.

Golden bridge time.

Hello RCM, over here you will find rationality, a warm welcome or at least a pragmatic one, and biscuits.

ACovidofWitches · 02/12/2021 12:11

I think this is huge! And a big relief. It wouldn't have happened a few months ago.

Sexnotgender · 02/12/2021 12:12

Golden bridge is exactly what we need.

People need a way back.

Just fabulous thank you RCM

Datun · 02/12/2021 12:30

They want to 'ensure that women are never erased from the narrative around pregnancy and birth'.

Yes, it's great that they have the courage to write an apology using those words. But bloody hell, who would the fuck would have ever thought that the Royal College of Midwives would have reaffirm that they weren't going to erase women!

They can't exist without women.

CrispAndFrosty · 02/12/2021 12:32

I see they tagged Milli Hill. Brilliant. A sharp contrast to the nonsense from Birthrights, who publicly denounced her.

Clymene · 02/12/2021 12:33

I find it reassuring after that March for Midwives debacle the other week where they appeared to be allergic to the word women

Datun · 02/12/2021 12:37

Yes. Perhaps they're listening.
ChattyLion · 02/12/2021 12:38

Fantastic. We should all write and say thanks to RCM for keeping women in the frame where so many organisations have erased them. It’s very powerful that they’ve acknowledged this openly.

Sexnotgender · 02/12/2021 12:54

They really are holding their hands up.

Good on them!

I used to give quite a lot of money to Birthrights. Not getting a penny from me now.

drum123 · 02/12/2021 13:03

How do we contact them to say thank you (if we're not on twitter)?

ditalini · 02/12/2021 13:03

I LOVE that they tagged Milli Hill. I'm so relieve they're standing with her because we know that it's not a given from these orgs.

crumpet · 02/12/2021 13:05

Hopefully they can now disassociate themselves from Stonewall

The categorical & quick statement suggests an official policy. Not just that they don't want to erase women from discussions around birth, but that at some point they realised that this was going to come up, sat down, and made a decision on the organisaton's stance.

Yes I know its all mad that they had to say this, but this war of ideas has ripped through birth and breastfeeding worlds, and this is a clear line from them which I hope will give other organisations the confidence to do similar.

Praise good behaviour.

Sexnotgender · 02/12/2021 13:17

I agree @Manderleyagain, it’s nice to see a swift, coherent statement from an organisation.

Looks like the grownups may be re-entering the room. I'm hoping that we will soon be hearing that the RCM is leaving Stonewall.
