Blast from the past for many Scots, here! The well-known right wing personality Tommy Sheridan has tweeted his support for ForWomen Scotland.

Talking about an upcoming meeting of ForWomenScotland, Tommy tweets that he expects it to be:

'...informative and helpful to those of us who still believe in biology, equality and women's rights'

It does not surprise me one little bit that Tommy Sheridan knows what a woman is.

Gncq · 29/11/2021 12:35

He's a socialist

Great, lots of followers.

MorrisZapp · 29/11/2021 12:39

Aye Tommy Shagathon knows his way about a wumman 😂

WarriorN · 29/11/2021 12:42

Is he a humanist? Interesting part from their stance if so!

Kanaloa · 29/11/2021 12:42

I’m really not a fan of him. It’s unfortunate because we agree with each other on this one point, but I’m sure I agree on some issues with lots of unpleasant people.

How is he "right wing"?

WarriorN · 29/11/2021 12:44

I only had a vague recollection of him from big brother 🤣.

Just read up on the wiki entry for him.

ArabellaScott · 29/11/2021 12:45

That was sarcasm, SageHoney. I can't think of a person less right-wing than Tommy Sheridan!

From Wiki:

'Tommy Sheridan (born 7 March 1966) is a Scottish politician serving as convenor of Solidarity since 2019.[1] He previously served as convenor of the Scottish Socialist Party from 1998 to 2004 and as co-convenor of Solidarity from 2006 to 2016.[2][3] He was a Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) from 1999 to 2007.

Sheridan was active as a Militant entryist in the Labour Party until 1989 when Labour expelled him,[4] and became a member of Scottish Militant Labour (SML), which eventually became the core of the Scottish Socialist Party (SSP). He was a prominent campaigner against the Poll tax (officially known as the Community Charge) in Scotland, and was jailed for six months for attending a warrant sale in 1991 after Glasgow Sheriff Court had served a court order on him banning his presence.[5] He was elected to the Scottish Parliament in 1999 as a Glasgow representative and re-elected in 2003 despite, in 2000 and 2002, being jailed over the non-payment of fines levied in connection with breach of the peace convictions resulting from his actions at demonstrations against the presence of the nuclear fleet at the Faslane Naval Base.[6] '

As well as the ableist slur, you seem to have left a passive aggressive kiss at the end of your post, Helplessly.

No, thank you.

Thanks, Arabella - I thought it had to be but I must be in "2021 has made me paranoid" mode today! It looks like an interesting event.

HelplesslyHoping - as this is the feminism board "supports women's rights" stands as a relevant point. However, IF the linked comment had showed any evidence of "transphobia", we could have talked about that too. It doesn't, though, does it? If it did you'd be able to explain how - of course, avoiding misogyny and tranphopbia yourself! - it's "transphobic" to suggest that a discussion of public policy in Scotland should be made available to the general Scottish public?

That's a rather sanitised entry.

He's a deeply loathsome individual.

Yeah I think that’s a good tweet from him. Good stuff. He’s still popular to a degree I’ll bet

ArabellaScott · 29/11/2021 14:21

I was highlighting his political stance, Kimiko.

I'm not sure of his popularity, but I think it's interesting that people on the left are increasingly coming out in support of women's rights. It does show that this is an issue that crosses political divides.

Just in case anyone isn't aware of who Tommy Sheridan is.

WarriorN · 29/11/2021 15:18

"The time has come to rid the left of male misogynists who view women as appendages,"

Well, that's going well. Not.

Grant, the former women and equality spokesperson for the SSP, was at the meeting in 2004. She says that Sheridan decided his best form of attack was to pretend that a political plot by feminists was afoot. "Seemingly the women in the party wanted to get rid of him by means of a matriarchal coup. Sheridan found himself talking publicly about witches and dark arts."

Grant was accused of wanting to "expose him" – she effectively tried to "kill his unborn child and pregnant wife" – when she refused to lie for him in court. "Tommy called us 'scabs' in a national newspaper. Whenever we would go to meetings we would be shouted at and verbally abused by some male supporters," she says

Hmm.

WarriorN · 29/11/2021 15:19

I wonder if we know what stance the women mentioned in the article take on trans issues?

ArabellaScott · 29/11/2021 15:32

... a matriarchal coup. Sheridan found himself talking publicly about witches and dark arts.

Cripes.
