Non binary runner at NYC marathon

So basically this is a gay man competing? There were 16 non binary people competing in the non binary category. I wonder how many were women, especially if there is prize money involved.

So technically a bit very good runner could declare non binary ism (because there is no ‘proof’) and enter a race that they otherwise wouldn’t be able to enter?

Some men who weren't good at sport decided to identify as women to win all the things. Some men decided that was too much bother so they invented a new category so that they could win all the things.

I think the non-binary category will be used for transmen - who couldn't hope to complete in the men's category But the transmen wouldn't have a chance against any 'AMAB' non-binary runners. What's needed is separate male and female non-binary races :)

But those two original separate categories don't work for AFAB people who are on testosterone for their gender identity, and still want to compete. These trans/NBs need a different category to the female one or otherwise accept they can't compete.

A category got female athletes who have taken certain performance enhancing drugs needn't be restricted to particular gender identities, and it might be discriminatory and possibly illegal if it were.

If he hadn't "done well", would he have blamed it on his womanny side?....

The time they ran it in is deeply mediocre as competitive running goes, wouldn't even get you a good for age time at the London Marathon. 🙄

Yes, I just find it all a bit ridiculous. When I see someone describe themselves as non binary, I think - so are you a non binary man or a non binary woman? We are all one or the other.
I heard an actor (clearly a woman) described as non binary on the radio over the weekend. She just doesn’t want to be described as a woman for some reason. I rolled my eyes into the back of my head when I heard that.

No, it doesn't. People can still identify into the woman's section, this was, specifically, a non-binary category. afict by the names, there were some OFAB NBs in the NB category.

As PPs say, there will, at some point be major races where all three categories have records held by one sex.

Ah, in that case not so good then. I have no problem with a proper third or even fourth category (although it could get a bit silly), as long as women have their own category.

The non binary category will become more popular if there is prize money too - unscrupulous people could identify as non binary on the day and scoop the prize..

The non binary category in sport is a madness as it will inevitably be won by those who are XY instead of XX. Sport is carried out with bodies not identities. Although maybe that will cause the XX non binaries to ponder...
