Starling Bank tackling gender inequality

I'm pleasantly surprised by this, it focuses on women, equal pay, women's success in a man's world.

https://www.starlingbank.com/about/gender-equality/?utmcampaign=984579251121TheMurmur&utmmedium=email&utmsource=Starling%20Bank%20Limited&dmi=4Q2Y,L3PF,2RS65W,2J5O8,1

And if anything this reminds us that yes, we are still discriminated against for having vaginas and, yes, it's fine to say so.

I really hope that they don't do any u-turns under pressure of TRAs.

Ignoring the term gender inequality, because we are really talking about sex, the content confirms we are talking about sex.

No idea what I want to achieve with this thread. But it's nice to come across reality in the wild.

I cancelled my (30+ year) accounts with Barclays and moved to Starling in the hope that they were more feminist. Am glad not to be let down (yet)

What did Barclays do? I have Barclays.... I'm worried now!

Sofuckingsad · 25/11/2021 15:53

Relieved to read this. I love my starling account so opened this thread with trepidation!

ArabellaScott · 25/11/2021 15:53

Thanks, OP. Interesting. I might consider opening an account just to support them.

I went with Starling a few years ago, not knowing this. They are great for money management. With time I have been more and more pleased with that decision: Female run, and makes managing money easier and more fun. And then now this. Fabulous bank!

Interesting.

I'm getting fed up with HSBC.

MonsignorMirth · 25/11/2021 23:42

From that link - I thought this was cool and not something people usually try and tackle head-on!

"2021
Make Money Equal: Part 2"

"For the second part of our #MakeMoneyEqual campaign, we analysed over 600 photographs within articles about money and finance in media and advertising. We found that men were mostly shown in control and making financial decisions, whilst women were clutching piggy banks and counting pennies. Something had to change, so we created a free image library that better represented women and money."

Oh dear that video......

Personwithrage · 29/11/2021 10:32

@MonsignorMirth that is really interesting!

I wish I hadn't watched that video again @ArabellaScott @Gncq - it made me so cross the first time!!

Am really opleased with Starling though!

I don't think Sionice is fooling any one.

ChristinaXYZ · 30/11/2021 12:07

You missed Sionice telling you that you did not need to understand just do what you're told?? @Gncq

twitter.com/carolinefff/status/1409837580078702592

I took the trouble to write - properly via snail mail - to complain about the bossy, compelled speech tenor of what Sionice was saying and to ask how they made their GC customers and staff feel welcome and indeed 'safe'. Barclays never bothered to reply.

The video is still up on twitter as you can see so they obviously think it is ok still.

Personwithrage · 30/11/2021 12:19

I find it so interesting how far down a rabbit hole Barclays must be that they can't understand that the tone and delivery of Sionice's instructions feels threatening and aggressive to some.

I really, really don't like it. And it led me to move my current and our joint accounts over to Starling. I had banked with Barclays since 1991.

Purpletomato · 30/11/2021 13:25

Thank you, I'm going to look at moving to them from Barclays.
