Women 500,000 years ago apparently shaved under their arms!

Is it just me or is this a ridiculous “artist’s impression” of a recently discovered pre-human species 500,000 years ago? Grin

I mean, come on - are we supposed to believe that the women among the Homo bodoensis stood around posing sexily with their underarms all neatly shaven? Or should we just assume the artist was a bloke?

That's extraordinary.

BrandineDelRoy · 28/10/2021 21:39

I agree this is a ridiculous portrayal, but I am a fan of the underarm shaving. I would do it if I were male.

Catabogus · 28/10/2021 21:39

Ahhhhh yes, it seems the artist looks a lot like one might expect

She looks very alluring. Typical male frame of reference

What would you do it with 500,000 years ago? A sharp rock?

Well, the ladies had to fill their time.

Used it wisely with the pit -shaving.

AMostExcellentStick · 28/10/2021 21:48

Of course they shaved. They also didn’t do too much hard work, no unattractive muscles or scars here. And practiced their poses in just the right way to show off their pert and symmetrical breasts. The male’s genitalia we must of course protect from view.

fallfallfall · 28/10/2021 21:50

clamshells and pulling them out from each other over the long boring winters? they picked lice etc so maybe hair no different??
first nations people of north america have less body hair as do asians.
so his rendition may not be inaccurate.

There's always one.

Pubes are nice and tidy too!

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 28/10/2021 21:57

Pulling my armpit hairs out by the root sounds as attractive a prospect as pulling out my head hairs by the root!

I bet the women had enough kids to cope with that they never had to resort to either for something to do! Grin

I'm sure that's what he had in mind. He was probably speculating over clamshell pit scraping for days. She's lucky she hasn't had the full Hollywood.
BrandineDelRoy · 28/10/2021 22:37

I wouldn't have done it back then. But it is still my preference now. I want my deodorant to contact my skin.

ArabellaScott · 28/10/2021 22:50

I bet they had stone age vajazzle. Mica or periwinkles or something stuck on with dried mud. And pole dancing was probably big, too. That was maybe what the hunters were carrying in the pictures, come to think of it.

What a bloody awful illustration, on so many levels.

💯 this

Some of the things mentioned have been used by people in the past. Hair plucking has been used in some cultures, using tweezers made of shells. Some First Nations groups in North America plucked out their eyebrows entirely.

Some ethnic groups also have very little body hair. The Inuit word for white people basically means "big eyebrows".

FemaleAndLearning · 28/10/2021 23:53

OMG that is hilariously bad. The woman is in some kind of front naked pose whilst the man is all curled up. At best she us shading her eyes from the sun but I'm not sure anyone would do it quite like that!
Good point about the armpit hair, why would they not include it? Also the female looks too tall and slender with my untrained eye.

5zeds · 28/10/2021 23:59

I was more distracted by the line running between her breasts to her belly button and very wide spaced breasts. Did she start out male and then get boobs?

allmywhat · 29/10/2021 00:01

Those are very strange breasts. In fact I’m vaguely reminded of Michaelangelo trying to paint breasts.

Obviously this artist, possibly unlike Michaelangelo, has seen breasts, but perhaps only in porn? Is he trying to extrapolate what slightly saggy natural breasts might look like, having only seen implants?

ErrolTheDragon · 29/10/2021 00:08

Tbf, in the unlikely event of an unclad bloke getting that close to an egrets beak, I wouldn't blame him for adopting a defensive posture.

shakingmytambourineatyou · 29/10/2021 00:21

Just be grateful the grass is long, otherwise you would see her in red stiletto heels, no doubt.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 29/10/2021 00:24

She posed boobily...

FemaleAndLearning · 29/10/2021 00:31

I had a look at the artist's Instagram and this image looks quite different to his other work. This did make me laugh, it's homo erectus!

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 29/10/2021 00:38

Tbf those armpits aren't shaggy. What's going on with his torso though?

FemaleAndLearning · 29/10/2021 00:42

Bear scars?!
