Help needed for Afghan women judges, lawyers, activists escaping Taliban

Baroness Helena Kennedy has helped 103 women and their families escape Afghanistan, and has a crowdfunder, which obviously I won’t link directly to as that is against MN rules, but they are seeking support to help with visa applications etc for these women.

There’s a petition to parliament in the usual place, too, but whilst parliament farts around, Baroness Kennedy needs some gardening doing to support practical action. I know that many of us may differ with Baroness Kennedy on who exactly is a woman - but at least in this instance she understands that the Taliban knows who they want to target, and is using her privelige and power to do something about it and hopefully save lives.

Baroness aside - agreed that these women and their families need our help.

I think MNHQ can break their own rules re crowdfunders if they adopt it as a cause they promote in a pinned thread - if so, this seems like a case they might want to consider. The need is extreme and urgent.

Do you mean on the government website - I just looked on the MN petitions board, couldn't spot a thread there. Do you want to start one, OP?

Cwenthryth · 28/10/2021 16:29

Yes, govt petitions website. I don’t know how to find the petitions board on here tbh!!! But please yes if someone knows how please lay permissible breadcrumbs

Petition currently only has 1100 signatures, we can do better than that. 10,000 for a govt response, how can we spread the word?

It’s called “Call on the UK Government to provide Afghan Judges and Lawyers at risk sanctuary”

I've created a thread on the petitions board. If those of you who've already signed would like to bump it that'd be great.
