This is a tragic story. I share with no further comment as I haven't processed all I've just heard yet.

Haven't been able to bear to watch it yet.

We (society, the world) need to wrap our minds around the idea that buying or selling or renting human beings is bad.

Even when they're human women. Even when it's virtual (at the buyer's end). Even when the victims need the money.

The anti abortion types and the pro surrogacy types have such a lot in common.

Related to this post-

Altering language, using certain imagery. To create as much distance as possible between the eventual baby and the woman it is growing inside her, and that she gives birth to.

Both groups avoid mentioning/ never mention the host of risks to a woman to do with pregnancy/ childbirth.

Pregnancy and childbirth are airbrushed away as a nothing, really.

It's deliberate. And exactly the same for those groups which says something fundamental about what these things are about.

Thank you for sharing this OhHolyJesus.

That the risk to surrogates gets minimised so much is abhorrent.

So much this. Even if you’ll be really sad if you don’t get to buy one human and pay another to use her body, it’s still not ok

I don't think I can bear to watch this either. So so awful.

I can't say what I really want to as it would be deleted.

Dozer · 22/10/2021 16:43

Not going to click. What country is it, and is it commercial surrogacy?

Have concerns about ‘altruistic’ surrogacy too, but v much against commercial surrogacy.

OhHolyJesus · 22/10/2021 16:59

To save clicking through, this is an interview from Jennifer Lahl, she opens it with a sort of disclaimer that they disagree on some things but both agree on wanting safety for women and babies. What follows is the account of the husband who lost his wife. It was a commercial surrogacy arrangement through an agency in America.

I confess I haven't been able to watch the whole thing, I'm watching in sections as I find it horribly upsetting.

I watched snippets. His anguish and distress is very difficult to watch.

Buying and renting humans is never acceptable. I can't say much more due to my anger and frustration.
