Heres a story about the Brighton charity Allsorts. Although homophobia appears in the first line, all the rest of the article appears to be about trans.

Isn't it handy when you can group yourself with another characteristic then claim their hate crime as your own?

Sussex is probably less ethnically diverse than the UK as a whole so a lower % of hate crime on the ethnicity and religion strands than you’d expect from other parts of the UK?

Large and very vocal gay community in Brighton, too. It's a community that I can see as being confident - rightly! - about reporting hate crime to the police in a way that members of ethnic minority groups might not, just because of the particular history of Pride in the city.

Sussex police offer an online or app hate crime submission.

There are five listed hate crime categories and they make up two of them, so nearly half. Isn't that good news for them that of all hate crimes in that area only less than a quarter were against them.

Especially as Brighton has such a large Gay and Trans community. I'd have expected that to be higher.
It's a shame for the other groups who have a higher percentage of the hate crimes committed against them and didn't rate a mention in that article.

Was it Nutmeg's article on Glinner's substack that says police officers (as victims) make up almost 50% of the hate crimes that are prosecuted?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/10/2021 13:31

Yes, it was.

NecessaryScene · 16/10/2021 15:34

Here's the article on that:

Police officers are victims in almost half of all hate crime prosecutions
