I would love to hear others' opinions on Finn Mckay's points made in this Guardian interview today.

Load of waffle that basically comes down to #bekind fence sitting with absolutely no solutions for any supposed compromise.

Lots of agreeing about some of points relating to being female, then in the next breath dismissing them.

HummingBeeBox · 06/10/2021 08:16

I struggled to read past the point where the author seemed to become confused about the definition of women. In one moment saying most women have cervixes but some transmen do too, then going on to argue that we need to be mindful of the treatment of women's bodies. They've already just said some women have penises.

It is interesting to see someone who has embraced something else, and I do think this is where everything needs to go, not forcing stereotypes. It is refreshing in a sense.

Only half way through... will be back

I have heard fiin speak, years ago.

She was incredible. So powerful. I'll never forget it. Her passion for women's rights was palpable.

I was so dismayed to see her go down this route.

So basically, as a child this person did not behave according to gender stereotypes and instead of recognising that gender stereotypes are utter bollocks decided that they are a they rather than a her.

What is so difficult about understanding that when you have two boxes, one that says female and has pictures of frilly dresses, pink sparkles and make up and one that says male and has pictures of football, pint glasses and blue on it that the problem is not the words on the boxes but the pictures on them?

lazylinguist · 07/10/2021 12:45

Yep, waffly #bekind article.

Great way of putting it!

Who, Finn?

Look her up :)

She was an absolute grade a passionate women's rights fighter.

When I heard her speak it was totally rallying.

I was totally baffled when she went in this direction.

NiceGerbil · 07/10/2021 18:59

2013 I think this was when I was there

CuriousaboutSamphire · 07/10/2021 19:06

There are no gender wars. Those who have swallowed gender ideology all agree with each other.

Could be interesting if she/hers take against zhi/zhes though.

As an aside, the PP above reminded me that I found stark gender boxes in the wild today.

drspouse · 07/10/2021 21:36

Finn thinks that if you wear a skirt to work you have sold out or else you have a "gender identity as a woman". Finn is a privileged and confused young woman who needs to get out more.

NiceGerbil · 07/10/2021 22:13

I'm going to stop now :)

She was fab.

This direction was very surprising shocking etc for lots of Feminists here who were the more going to conferences etc types.

I never did look into why she went that way really. I might have a look.

I think it's more useful to try and understand why women like her. Go off this way.

In her case it wouldn't be fear of popularity waning, being on the 'wrong' side, getting in really heated back and forth etc.

That's not what she is. If she was then she wouldn't have been who she is / was iyswim.

The idea of her being indirect, vague etc is very strange.

Something personal for her in her life maybe no idea.
