Scottish COVID Passport App - what a surprise

Registered for the extra-special, definitely better than the England and Wales, COVID-passport app.

Thanks Nicola for this very clear screen which really passes the plain English test to make sure that everyone understands what is being asked. Confused

I do not have a “gender identity” at my GP. I have my sex recorded.

So sick of this nonsense.

In medicine, what matters is your sex. Not the sex you wish you were, bit the one you actually are.

To be fair the NHS now operates on gender basis so they're not wrong. It's madness.

WelshDaffodil · 01/10/2021 07:47

I had a similar question on the Welsh one yesterday. "Which of these is on your medical records" Why you can change your sex on medical records is utterly baffling, the physical body is what counts medically. If a person is transitioning of course that should be recorded too but in the notes, not by changing the sex on the record. Confused

Well it allows Stonewall to criticise the NHS twice. First they can demand that the NHS ignore medical safety by insisting on people being allowed to change their sex marker on their records, so that it reflects their gender identity instead of their actual sex. Then they can complain when they don't get called for screening programmes because they are registered as the opposite sex.Hmm

Earlier this week I crossed out “Gender” and wrote “Sex” on my daughter’s P1 health screening NHS form.

She’s 4. What she actually “identifies as” is a puppy, and that’s been consistent and persistent since she was about 18 months. But I’m not going to start feeding her Pedigree Chum am I.

That wording is so awkward I can't tell if it's parody/satire (unfortunately likely not) or a ten year old programmer (probably the little sister of the genius behind the "Dear Haters" letters).

Ask gender or even gender identity, OK. Or what's on your medical records. Those would fly under the radar for most people while satisfying the zoomers. But "which of the following do you identify as with your GP practice" is going to confuse the hell out of normies. Good thing they gave choices.

It’s almost impossible to parse on a first attempt. Seriously, try reading it aloud. Even though I know all the crazy nonsense that streams out of SNP/Scot Gov and even though language stuff is what I do for a living, my immediate reaction was something like “Are they asking whether my GP practice is male or female? What would that even mean?”

I was pleased to see that when I fill in an online form to get advice from a GP it asks me for my sex. Long may that last. If you give your "gender" rather that your sex you're at much higher risk of a misdiagnosis, obviously.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 01/10/2021 09:45

I gather the Mumsnet Census is asking for gender rather than sex (Q3).

It is common that no organisation has any regard for the dichotomy of sex no matter how urgent the need for plain language.

Theunamedcat · 01/10/2021 09:48

Which of the following do you identify as at your gp?

I'm a patient not a very patient patient but still a patient

Jaysmith71 · 01/10/2021 10:10

Maybe I can Identify as Scottish and vote in the next Indyref?

Hoots Mon, there's a moose loose aboot this hoose.

malloo · 01/10/2021 13:39

That question doesn't make any sense. I have never once been asked by my GP what I identify as

Yepnothatfeeling · 01/10/2021 14:45

Utter mangling of language - ridiculous!

FlyingOink · 01/10/2021 14:52

@Jaysmith71

Maybe I can Identify as Scottish and vote in the next Indyref?

Hoots Mon, there's a moose loose aboot this hoose.

That would make up for all the Scots in England and Wales who can't vote
