Linkedin has just demanded my pronouns

Missproportionate · 30/09/2021 15:50

I have ignored it.

OP posts:
GrimDamnFanjo · 30/09/2021 15:52

Yeah me too. Ridiculous.

VladmirsPoutine · 30/09/2021 16:02

I doubt they 'demanded'. It is an option for those who choose to use it Hmm

Mrsjamin · 30/09/2021 16:06

If they demanded it then you wouldn't have been able to ignore it. I know, pronoun announcements annoys me too, but don't make out that they insist on it when they were just asking.

334bu · 30/09/2021 16:21

As it is against Yogyakarta Principle 6 , even asking for it is transphobic.

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 30/09/2021 16:25

Oh is this the latest bullshit update from LinkedIn, which does nothing to improve its functionality whatsoever? It hasn't rolled out to me yet.

Load of utter bollocks woo gender shite.

AlfonsoTheDinosaur · 30/09/2021 17:05

If they ask me, I will ignore the request.

Franca123 · 30/09/2021 17:24

I was first asked this a while back. What I find interesting is that virtually no one in my network has them. What does that tell you? Everyone thinks it's bollocks.

Hoppinggreen · 30/09/2021 17:26

They give you the option (which I won’t be taking), they aren’t demanding them.

jenny5000 · 30/09/2021 17:32

Have you seen their latest TV ad?

daisyjgrey · 30/09/2021 17:40

I highly doubt they 'demanded' them and you've ignored it anyway.

Soooooo? Would you like to discuss the weather or something?

334bu · 30/09/2021 17:52

Would you like to discuss why LinkedIn are making transphobic requests of their members, daisy?

VladmirsPoutine · 30/09/2021 17:56

How is asking transphobic?

334bu · 30/09/2021 18:00

Have you read the Yogyakarta Principles?

VladmirsPoutine · 30/09/2021 18:08

No.

McDuffy · 30/09/2021 18:11

I tried going on LinkedIn today and all the she/her-ing jarred so much that I find it almost unusable.

334bu · 30/09/2021 18:13

"Ensure the right of all persons ordinarily to choose when, to whom and how to disclose information pertaining to their sexual orientation or gender identity, and protect all persons from arbitrary or unwanted disclosure, or threat of disclosure of such information by others." Yogyakarta Principle 6F

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 30/09/2021 19:57

It's so fucking retrograde. Why does anyone even need to know or ask? Why, on a site that's meant to be about work, is my sex the most vital fact for me to offer people? Are we all supposed to pretend that we're blind and can't tell what sex people are?

Jaysmith71 · 30/09/2021 20:13

LinkedIn began in co-founder Reid Hoffman's living room in 2002.... Today, LinkedIn leads a diversified business with revenues from membership subscriptions, advertising sales and recruitment solutions under the leadership of Ryan Roslansky.

But No Pronouns

secular111 · 30/09/2021 20:32

You have to look hard on LinkedIn for anyone with pronouns. I looked through my contacts and couldn't find one, other than my DH.

DH has set his - Comrade/comrade in LinkedIn. His Dad was a union convenor, so he still retains the socialist thinking he grew up with. His opinion of the Left now in Britain is unprintable.

Comrade/comrade is probably the ultimate non-binary pronoun. I'm thinking about employing it myself -and best of all, when prompted to reveal my pronouns in a meeting, whether in-person or in Zoom/Teams, Comrade has to be the ultimate killer response!

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 30/09/2021 21:01

Quite I few people I know have them now. It makes me think less of them tbh.

NotTerfNorCis · 30/09/2021 21:02

Some higher-ups (managers, HR) have adopted pronouns in their signatures at work. To me it's a massive cringe. Makes me lose respect for them immediately.

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 30/09/2021 21:49

Who are they so desperate to appease? It's so craven.

PineappleCakes · 30/09/2021 21:54

@secular111 Comrade is an inspired choice! If I ever have to succumb, I'm going to chose comrade, thanks. (It'll play right into my ethnic heritage too, that'll fuck up some brains.)

McDuffy · 30/09/2021 22:21

I reckon 1/4 of my contacts have them and then three at least have them in their actual name so it comes up as Jane McDuff (it's/wank) shared a link

McDuffy · 30/09/2021 22:22

The apostrophe was intentional but jars slightly, sorry Grin
