Resource for mom with trans daughters

FamilyRoadster · 26/09/2021 21:36

Hi,
Can anyone recommend a good resource, preferably a podcast, for a mom who has recently had a teen daughter come out as trans and another as NB? She’s progressive-ish, but is worried about her trans daughter killing herself (she thinks the suicide rate is 50% when neither parent affirms trans status). I would like to gently introduce her to gc ideas and strategies for dealing with her daughters. Podcasts are best. I doubt she would have a book in the house that questions trans orthodoxy.
TIA!

Thanks all! I don’t think Mermaids is appropriate for this situation, but lots of other sources that are new to me. Looks like a lot of good resources out there!

@anaily

The aim of the other orgs is to stop kids being trans, that is conversion therapy.
Ah, you believe someone needs to have medical treatment as a child to be truly trans?
MonsignorMirth · 26/09/2021 23:21

I'm interested to hear exactly by which mechanisms anaily believes someone can 'stop being trans'. How does that happen?

anaily · 26/09/2021 23:22

No medical treatment is needed. Trying to force them to stop being trans is pretty messed up.

Enough4me · 26/09/2021 23:22

@anaily, feminists don't hate men, I love my partner and he is completely supportive of women's rights.

Trans rights are important, but not at the expense of existing rights.

Young people need safeguarding and have the right for open-minded support to make decisions in their best interests and not to become collateral damage for a controlling minority group.

Please provide evidence for this.

You have been repeatedly asked for evidence to support your assertions and you have never provided any.

You keep repeating these falsehoods about conversion therapy, and now you are misinforming a parent about this. Do you actually understand the harm that you potentially are causing?

You refuse to read independent evidence that shows YOU are wrong but continue down this path.

And you think you are on the right side of history?

Please stop spreading dangerous misinformation which you seem to know nothing about and not through lack of others giving you the information.

PickAChew · 26/09/2021 23:24

Wow, @anaily has progressed so much from just needing a few things explained, in the past week.

anaily · 26/09/2021 23:32

Where did i say anyone hates men?
Yes I've been reading and watching vids. Saw some stuff from Ben Shapiro (?), Pink news too.
Attempting to cure LGBT people is conversion therapy.

Helleofabore · 26/09/2021 23:32

OP, no a podcast as such, but some of the clinicians belonging to

segm.org/

might have podcasts or be on some if you looked up their names and googled.

And Genspect.

genspect.org/

MonsignorMirth · 26/09/2021 23:34

Sorry anaily but to suggest there is even such a concept of 'curing' gay people is incredibly homophobic (and likewise for trans people). Why do you think there is anything to be 'cured'? Same with the notion that trans people can stop being trans.

I'm torn whether to report your posts or leave them to stand to show what LGBT people are up against.

Evidence please anaily.

From studies and papers from clinicians. And not regurgitated by others, original source material please.

Otherwise, please stop spreading misinformation. You are putting children and teenagers at risk. And as a parent of a vulnerable teen, with trans friends, I see the direct effects of that misinformation you are spreading on a daily basis.

What precisely is being converted in this conversion process anaily?
MrsTerryPratchett · 26/09/2021 23:54

Conflating sexuality and gender is what got us here. Conversion 'therapy' is evil. But if >50% of the lesbians and gays men who came out in their teens decided they were straight later, and being lesbian or gay meant considering life-altering drugs and surgery, the conversation would be a little more nuanced I'd hope. Wait and see maybe, which I believe is what the organisation you're talking about is in favour of.

Gender and sexuality aren't the same.

dyslek · 26/09/2021 23:57

@anaily

Out of all the suggestions, mermaids is the only one that directly works with trans kids, the rest don't work with trans and promote conversion therapy.
Dident Jimmy Savill do a lot of work with children too?
PatsArrow · 27/09/2021 00:23

Another vote here for Gender - A wider Lens.

Both Sasha Ayes and Stella O Malley are psychotherapists who specially work with young people. Sasha Ayes purely works with young people and gender.

PatsArrow · 27/09/2021 00:24

Sorry typo - Sasha Ayed.

Taking a 3 year old to CAMHS because the parent says they’re trans is pretty messed up. My child thought she was a puppy when she was 3 FFS!!!

Completely agree, trying to trans gay people is conversion therapy.

Pinotnoirandcheese · 27/09/2021 07:16

anaily, I would like to hear your side. Who is Ben Shapiro and could you post some links to his research?

Well im glad you got something out of it before it was completely derailed
ArabellaScott · 27/09/2021 08:55

'Pink News and Ben Shapiro' are anailly's sources. I see.

Pinotnoirandcheese · 27/09/2021 08:57

Who is Ben Shapiro? Does he work with transgender people and does anyone have any links to his research?

littlbrowndog · 27/09/2021 09:06

I thought this was really thoughtful from a doctor who works with trans gender people
