Spied in the Eye.

Private Eye perfection on the virtue signalling of pronouns
OP posts:

I’m torn between wry amusement and eye-rolling frustration over how ridiculous this all is, and how something so obviously ludicrous has gained such a foothold in places that will have such serious consequences in the West. I find it hard to laugh at. Would that it were easier.

RoastChicory · 21/09/2021 06:46

That is brilliant.

Babdoc · 21/09/2021 09:06

Love it! It needs a wider audience, as sadly the wokerati are unlikely to see it.

anonymice · 21/09/2021 09:28

they nail it every time. So depressing.

NautaOcts · 21/09/2021 09:29

Wish I was brave enough to share that on my Facebook

IDanielRadcliffe · 21/09/2021 09:31

I think some people would genuinely embrace that. Wasn’t there that US reporter who said “well currently they’re standing in groups shouting Death To America! but they seem friendly” Hmm

SpindleWhorl · 21/09/2021 09:33

That's clever. Shows in an instant that just saying the word 'inclusive' to describe actions doesn't need to mean a bloody thing - and can actively exclude women and be dangerous for them.

ArabellaScott · 21/09/2021 09:44

Perfect.

Somebody I know was in a zoom meeting of senior people in his organization recently and he observed that the majority had their pronouns up, all of which were he/him. He made some comment about how it wasn’t really necessary given they were all white middle aged men- didn’t go down too well!

EdmontinaDonsAutumnalHues · 21/09/2021 09:48

Thank you for that.

Wondrously succinct.

MagpiePi · 21/09/2021 09:50

I wish I had the nerve to share this at work, where they have seriously drunk the Stonewall version of inclusiveness

SapphosRock · 21/09/2021 10:03

Brilliant! Star

IamAporcupine · 21/09/2021 10:13

This is sooo good, thanks for sharing

That's increasingly becoming a thing and has been common in NGOs and the voluntary sector since before Zoom made it an option.

And they wouldn't leave it there, on no, they invited first the other 'outside' panel members and then all the participants to do it as well. Most people still can't handle 'mute', they're hapless when using the renaming function (and that's bad security practice) but these were the things that dominated NGO meetings for a few months.

That's hilarious and depressing at the same time.
LaetitiaASD · 21/09/2021 13:31

Is it passive / aggressive to use the pronouns "fuck / off" in my email signature?

Thelnebriati · 21/09/2021 13:44

Yes! But no less PA than insisting you have to use them in the first place so crack on.

bellinisurge · 21/09/2021 14:22

Back in the office with more people than before. Including some I hadn't seen or chatted to for a while. Vast majority are left of centre/liberal minded. Including Labour Party member. They started The Conversation . We've never talked about It before. All were utterly exasperated at Gender Woo and pronoun bollocks. Far more strident than I have ever been out loud.
Cheered me up.

RedGateWoman · 21/09/2021 14:28

I just say out loud that I find it intrusive into my personal life. That ends the conversation.

That's a real life example of what that cartoon is illustrating! Putting your pronouns up whilst still upholding male dominance!
annacondom · 21/09/2021 14:42

Someone on a previous thread said that a lad in her office put his pronouns as tit/twat on his email signature and no one noticed! (Or if they did, likely had a chuckle and said nothing.)

I am involved with a group of 20 people of all ages. Since I saw them last before lockdown, two of the youngsters have changed gender. So I suppose that normalising announcing your pronouns has helped them.

RedDogsBeg · 21/09/2021 14:45

As you are allowed to invent your own special pronouns I'm going for:

FO/FY - Fuck off and Fuck You.

Print it out (enlarged if possible) then stick it up on a wall somewhere when there’s nobody about?

Gods I wish this would begin to get some momentum in Canada. We need a publication like The Times that has a fairly wide circulation and will write clearly about what is actually happening.
