Someody help me.

I know I am not going mad, I just heard this on Radio2 news.

CPS leaves Stnewall, the legality of its advice having been questioned.

But I can't find it being reported anywhere, Google has let me down!

Anyone else hear it?

Anyone find confirmation elsewhere?

Or - what did I mishear?

@CuriousaboutSamphire I know! I had to go to bbc sounds to re listen as I thought I'd misheard!

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 13/09/2021 15:53

@allmywhat

Any way to evaluate Stonewall's claim that their Diversity Champions scheme is growing? Seems unlikely. Have they put it on sale or something?
It's cheaper than their workplace index scheme so perhaps some employers are downrating their subscription to that.

It will be easier to evaluate when they make an up-to-date list public. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that a fair number of the Diversity Champions are in education or healthcare as well as the Civil Serve. All sectors that have well and truly got provision for every other protected characteristic in-hand. Hmm All are strategic organisations for enforcing language changes in key areas so they're obvious targets for Stonewall (via Denton's strategy).

@CuriousaboutSamphire

Our rainbow coluored all electric police car had the rainbow peeled off it overnight last weekend Grin

I know who it was and his sergeant would probably turn a blind eye - it was foisted upon their ruralness by some 'woke pillock from the smoke'.

That could be a very local call to arms Say No to the Woke from the Smoke! Grin

This is one of the best things I've ever read.
yourhairiswinterfire · 13/09/2021 15:56

It's making the Police a complete and utter laughing stock

If I saw one of those cars pull up, I'd expect to see 50 clowns climb out of it in a glitter explosion. So bloody daft Grin

NoSquirrels · 13/09/2021 15:56

I also heard this on BBC news bulletin on the school run and thought bloody hell - actual proper reporting from the BBC on this - something like “the scheme has come under fire for giving incorrect advice and misrepresenting the law”.

UniversalAunt · 13/09/2021 15:56

‘ How the actual fuck did we get here?’

Yep.
exwhyzed · 13/09/2021 15:57

Yes I heard it on radio 2 as well. Very well timed for the school run and also seemed to be the headline of the news bulletin.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 13/09/2021 15:58

And I kept it secret for a whole week @FreezerBird Smile

Nobody has mentioned it. It has been like it just hasn't happened!

Yes! That was the sentence in the longer part of it.

I am SO glad it wasn't just me that heard it

And yes @exwhyzed the timing was good. I hadn't appreciated that!

Massive hole in their credibility.

Police say they are looking into it.

Just read this on Twitter. Very good news.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 13/09/2021 16:11

Is it bad that I'm such a pessimist that I'm waiting on Sex Matters or similar to issue an update on whether there are any covert remnants such as with Ofcom?

LobsterNapkin · 13/09/2021 16:11

@UniversalAunt

‘ How the actual fuck did we get here?’

The path to Hell is paved with good intentions.

Yeah, I think a lot of it began with ideas like stakeholder engagement, involving relevant communities in consultation, the people involved are the experts, etc.

Those all sound nice, but while not untrue as such it also isn't necessarily true that these groups represent the best practices, or even the community they claim to represent, and the effect has been to flatten the representation of various groups on a host of issues.

That's even before you get real corruption and power grabs.

We have to realy start to be vigilant about this, in all areas. Which will be hard because most of us do have some issues where we agree with the lobby or organisation, and would like those ideas to succeed.

TheBigBad · 13/09/2021 16:16

My daughter brought the JR challenge to the CPS after their disgraceful 'anti-bullying' guidance that suggested she would be part of a hate crime if she complained about males in the girls loos, or didn't accept a male into a friendship group if the male had a girl gender identity.

Her case was that while the CPS was receiving this erroneous guidance from Stonewall, they could not be seen to be impartial, which was an important part of their remit as an authority of the state. It was dismissed because she was deemed to have 'no standing' because while she correctly identified that the anti-bullying guidance was completely wrong, she hadn't yet been directly abused by Stonewall because of it and would only be able to once she was. Despite the fact that Stonewall's guidance had induced the CPS to put out a document which discriminated against her unfairly.

They got away with this technicality because she did, however, force the CPS' hand and they withdrew the guidance, as many other authorities have had to do with Stonewall based errors. So they covered their arse, basically.

I told her about this today, and she grinned wide and nodded. Please, sexists and homophobes, enjoy the new generation of feminists who are learning to be persistent in standing up for their rights. You earned every one of them.

Sophoclesthefox · 13/09/2021 16:20

This is good news.

Bloody well done to your daughter for highlighting the issue, bigbad!

Tibtom · 13/09/2021 16:22

Agree Lobster. Organisations are told to consult with stakeholders so do it the easiest way they can - they speak to a vocal organisation locally. This organisation is then quick to consolidate their position as the 'go to' consultee. They may even offer to hold focus groups or organise stakeholder representation sessions - which the consulting organisation can use to tick an even bigger box - but then control participation in those sessions so other voices aren't heard.

GreyhoundG1rl · 13/09/2021 16:22

Your daughter is bloody fabulous, BigBad. You must be so proud.

Babdoc · 13/09/2021 16:22

Jaysmith71 Grin Love it!

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 13/09/2021 16:23

Which will be hard because most of us do have some issues where we agree with the lobby or organisation, and would like those ideas to succeed.

I can't tell you how many times I've been criticised for reviewing material from organisations where somebody thought that I should have gone 'easier' on them because 'their heart is in the right place' and 'they don't understand evidence'.

No - where public understanding or public money is involved, everything should be assessed by the same standards. I'd argue the same for private, large grant-making organisations but I know less about those.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 13/09/2021 16:23

Kudos to your daughter @TheBigBad

I hope she knows that hundred of woman across the country think she is a Total Legend!
