"Mass social-media induced illness" - sound familiar?

Just reading about a study where doctors were stumped by a bunch of young people with tourettes, until they worked out it was "“a new type of mass sociogenic illness… spread solely via social media.”, not actually tourettes - they'd all been watching the same youtuber who did have tourettes.

I wish people were a bit more open to exploring how much we're all influenced by marketing, people really like to believe that they're not affected - and those who benefit from it certainly don't want to rock the boat.

Would gender ideology have taken hold so fast without social media? I can't see how it could have happened, can you?

I don't know any young people who've socially transitioned (too young for the more intrusive interventions beyond PBs and binders) who don't spend approx. 3hrs+ a day on YT and similar - to the point where their own parents refer to the YT + SM community as their family.

That’s the point isn’t ‘new family’. I studied psychology a million years ago and remember learning that teenagers were way more likely to be influenced by peers than family.

And this type of thing has been going on for... well donkeys years -
