Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Twitter upheld complaints about these very mild tweets for hateful conduct.

Can people really think that saying trans women are male and not female be hateful? I thought even the most sold on gender identity didn't claim Transwomen were literally female, just that the word woman meant gender identity not sex.

I posted on high profile NHS Trans Leader account who was celebrating herself and how difficult everything was for her and I thought it was really unprofessional. I got accused of transphobia (obviously) defended my position and got a pile on from her trans supporters. i remained calm, used no slurs or bad language, explained my position, never misgendered anyone, used male instead of man.

These are the tweets Twitter upheld as hateful:

"Women - adult human females. Trans women - adult human males who identify with the female "gender" Simple"

In response to "We've all reported you"I said :

"Reported for saying that trans women are male?"

In response to saying the Equality act did exclude trans women based on their sex and accusing me of thinking that because I thought trans women were (their word) "icky":

"The Equality Act already does exclude trans women based on their sex, not because they are icky (stop projecting) because they are male."

In response to "We've all reported you" I said :

"If I get banned from twitter for stating that trans women are male, it says more about twitter than the truth of the statement. You aren't female"
(they reported that too.. Hateful to Twitter?)

In response to the person talking to her audience rather than directing comments at me and calling me "they" as in all GC people :

"They"?. We (you and I) have been going round in circles since the beginning, because it all hinges on the whether Trans Women are male. If you don't accept that, we are arguing about your religion. I already know that of course."

In response to "We've all reported you" again:

"Well it would be the same report wouldn't it. The only insult is saying you are male....and you are male"

Of course now I've deleted them, it looks like all those tweets really were hateful. Which they clearly weren't.

I got a permaban for calling someone a bloke.

Apparently I hurt his feelings Hmm

BigNothing · 02/09/2021 10:08

Yes, they can and do. What do you think we've all been moaning about? Grin

This is what deleted "hateful" tweets contain.
While MAP, racist, misogynist and homophobic ones remain (often due to not being reported, but not always).

The tech bros behind twitter and facefuck certainly know who is male and who is female when it comes to who they empathise with and who they order to shut up and put up.

PaleGreenGhost · 02/09/2021 10:15

No receipt but fairly sure someone was sanctioned by twitter for posting actual male vs female crime statistics.

It seems the very worst thing a person can do is hurt the feelings of a male human.

Female humans... Their feelings are probably put on to look cute and sexy or if they're older they're probably just bigots weaponising their trauma or something.

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 02/09/2021 10:18

Doesn't surprise me at all. We like to think of social media platforms as the public town square of old, where people meet and discuss and share ideas - but in reality they are privately owned companies operated and moderated, as PaleGreenGhost says by tech bros who generally hold women in contempt. Therefore the narrative that they support gets pushed to the forefront and everything else gets deleted.

They're the type that think women should look and act like blow up dolls and think using technology to spy on women is fine. We're nice to look at and wank over, but not whole human beings or anything! God forbid a woman says no or speaks out against a man though, then we are horrible and aggressive and need to be shut down.

The internet is largely a space by men for men. Which is why Mumsnet is hated so much by the frothing Twitter mob....a large group of women, talking, sharing ideas - the horror!

catzwhiskas · 02/09/2021 10:24

Women’s feelings are hurt more or less every second of every day. We put up with it and this nonsense is one more example of how or feelings are ignored and silenced in favour of those that are threatening to the extreme issued by men.

Hazycoffeek · 02/09/2021 10:45

I’m sorry that this happened to you OP but this is literally the issue that posters on this board are highlighting and the media won’t cover it as the trans activists successfully argue that even discussing the issue is transphobic, as you have seen. It’s so frustrating that most people don’t see what is going on but once you do, you can’t unsee it.

That everyone is now expected to believe that TW are literally women and not just to use correct pronouns etc. but to actually believe it and also not to allow women to have anything for themselves. And not just on Twitter but in real life. All aspects of society must now be changed to allow any man who self identifies as a woman to access all women’s services. To allow TW into girl guides, into toilets, into nomination lists for women’s accolades etc.

To prosecute anyone who questions it (see the poor autistic teenager who asked a community police TW ‘are you a man or woman’ who now has a criminal record for asking that one question).

No discussion, no change in laws. We’re all just expected to accept this now.

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 02/09/2021 13:37

I agree Hazy it's so disturbing, the twisting of reality and denial of any issue from intelligent people who should know better is headwrecking.
Rational, educated people are just swallowing this whole because #bekind. What happened to #behonest, or #bereasonable?

Unfortunately, the 'no change in laws' will not be true forever. I'm in Ireland where the change in law has already happened, by stealth. And Self ID looks to be coming down the line for Scotland is Nicola Sturgeon has her way. This the scarier part, that laws can be introduced without proper public consultation, which directly disadvantage women, and which may take years to roll back on. Sad

All part of a very odd belief that the only important thing about anything female humans says or does, is how it affects male humans. Everything they do is always all about male humans. They have no internal or independent existence outside this, therefore anything they did that a male person felt hurt or offended by was obviously done maliciously and on purpose. Because they do nothing that isn't all about male people.

And yet, remember, at the same time, no one knows what sex anyone else is, and biological indicators mean nothing about indicating sex anyway.

MargaritaPie · 02/09/2021 15:00

"In response to saying the Equality act did exclude trans women based on their sex "

If I'm not mistaken, I believe the Equality Act doesn't exclude transpeople from going about their day as the sex they identify as (this means a transwomen can legally use women's changing rooms in dept stores for example)? And that is also protects transpeople from discrimination.

donquixotedelamancha · 02/09/2021 15:15

Where did OP say it did? An EA exemption on the grounds of sex would only be allowed where sex was relevant.

this means a transwomen can legally use women's changing rooms in dept stores for example

That's not how the EA works. A department store decides it's own procedures. If they choose to have single sex changing rooms that's an exemption from the sex discrimination requirements for valid reasons.

They don't have to have single sex changing rooms- for example M and S don't.

donquixotedelamancha · 02/09/2021 15:17

I thought even the most sold on gender identity didn't claim Transwomen were literally female, just that the word woman meant gender identity not sex.

Nope, OP. The real nutters think biological sex doesn't exist and Gender Identity is objective fact.

Good God. That’s unbelievable 😳😡
Theeyeballsinthesky · 02/09/2021 15:58

Yes you’re mistaken MargaritaPie

Single sex exemptions are perfectly valid & allowable under the equality act

But you know this already….

OP - yes indeed, welcome to the pleasure dome where stating facts is apparently hateful

MargaritaPie · 02/09/2021 16:24

A department store decides it's own procedures.

Are you sure about that?

Same here 🙄🙄
CorrBlimeyGG · 02/09/2021 16:37

The only motivation I can see in posting those things was to cause upset. Pretty unpleasant thing to do. I'd be thinking about what your motivations were in doing so. Do you get a buzz out of it?

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 02/09/2021 16:42

This got me a permanent ban

“Imagine a male telling a female that her sex based oppression doesn’t exist and she has no right to access female only spaces and then calling her a misogynist Hahahaha crazy”

Or, you know, wanting to state a biological fact.
BigNothing · 02/09/2021 16:45

Correctly determining the sex of someone is useful for many reasons. For example, it's essential if diagnosing oneself as trans.

One can't even be trans if sex and gender are both male (or both female), so I'd say it's more upsetting to deny that these people are trans. Do you get a buzz out of denying the trans existence, Corr?

Lokdok · 02/09/2021 16:48

Let it go. Why are you fixated on how someone else identifies? You’re just trying to upset her for no reason at all. Mean spirited and hateful, so they’re absolutely right to report you for hate speech.

”Well it would be the same report wouldn't it. The only insult is saying you are male....and you are male"

You’ve a good chance of getting deleted on here too if you state the correct sex of any specific man who claims he’s a woman. To say men are not women more generally is tolerated, and I haven’t done as you have above and told anyone directly, but I’ve had a post removed before for naming a specific man and saying he’s male.

AnyOldPrion · 02/09/2021 17:08

And on Twitter, I think more than anything else, that it’s a demonstration of their power. They knew they had you as soon as you correctly sexed them. People have been reported for using words like dude or guys.
