UK Charity Needs Urgent Help to Evacuate Female Staff from Kabul

The Linda Norgrove Foundation does fantastic work supporting women & girls in Afghanistan. They are a Scotland based charity set up by the family of Linda Norgrove, an aid worker who was killed in Afghanistan in 2010.

They need urgent help to evacuate their female staff from Kabul who they believe are in immediate danger, not just because they are women working for a foreign organisation but because they belong to the Hazara ethnic minority

If you have time could you please email your MP and ask for their urgent assistance.

Thank you I will email my MO and share.

You may be better to also post this in AIBU. You’ll get lots of traffic there!

Have donated. I'm in the US so don't have an MP to harangue, but I have tweeted my support.

oneglassandpuzzled · 24/08/2021 17:49

Done.

But you do have a district representative and two senators.

Feel so helpless just sending emails!

I know what you mean but in this instance its what the organisation is asking people to do. They need to get the attention of someone with enough influence to help them get their staff out. I believe the Foundation's local MP, Angus MacNeil is already making their case but the more noise the better.

Thanks yes I know, it all just feels so helpless doesn’t it. I’ve just posted this on another thread.

Berkeys · 24/08/2021 20:48

Thanks, it is all such a huge mess. I am despairing at what is happening in the world right now.

Sexnotgender · 24/08/2021 21:01

Tweeted the link too.

PronounssheRa · 24/08/2021 21:12

If they have to close the airport why cant the US & UK (and the UN?) not help create a protected convoy of cars, buses, whatever to drive everyone

The Taliban would have to agree safe passage, if they don't I fear they might attack any convoy risking British/UN troops and the civilians in the convoy.

It's desperate, there are thousands upon thousands wanting to leave as they feel their lives are at risk. The Taliban are telling Afghans not to travel to Kabul Airport and telling women to stay at home.

Thanks everyone who has emailed or got the word out on social media.
@WeAreTheWomen I have tweeted Nicola but I don't have much reach. Also Joanna Cherry and a few other "names" who I know are interested in the situation in Afghanistan.
I didn't know anything about the Foundation myself til the latest crisis and was really inspired by the work they do so I wanted to do my bit to help them. Hopefully they'll be able to get some attention and their staff will be safe. I know there are lots of people in the same situation.

I met Lorna Norgrove at a pre-Christmas party a few years back (her daughter, Linda's sister lives in the next village to mine) and she told me about some of the work they are doing in Afghanistan.
I'll get writing and share on FB but I only have about 40 friends, mostly not in the UK.
