I've searched but couldn't find anything on this, sorry if it's been covered - just been reading through the This Much I Know feature and saw Eddie was the subject at the start of this month.

The self-flagellation of the correction at the bottom is hilarious and says it all...

As an aside, it doesn't bother me at all if someone misgenders me. This could be because I know for sure which sex I am. That misgendering is such a crime in some contexts but just a faux pas in other contexts should provoke some thinking about why the difference exists.

'Misgendering' me would be calling me 'cis' or, indeed, assuming that I have a 'gender identity' at all, because I don't. Funny how the people who most object to misgendering are the ones who regularly misgender me and get aggressive when I point it out.

I couldn't care less if someone happens to mistake me for a person of the opposite sex. Missexing? Not a problem. I know what sex I am, it isn't dependent on the validation of others.

Oh, it makes me sad.

Eddie used to be such a breath of fresh air. Now they are exactly the same as every other middle aged man who really fancies themself.

Yawn.

In EI's last film, EI played the male lead. In what category would they be nominated for an Oscar (or other award divided along male and female lines)?

And also, why is EI being allowed to appropriate male roles when they identify as female? Surely, the only roles EI may now play without appropriating other peoples' experiences are TW roles?

I'm just fascinated by the way they tie themselves in knots. (The Guardian, not Eddie - who I can't imagine had anything to do with the correction.)

Izzard identifies as 'genderfluid'. "somewhat boy-ish and somewhat girl-ish". So no problem with male roles, though perhaps the question should be why they're adult ones.

If Eddie's happy with either, as the clarification states, I would have thought it more likely they got ambushed by the social media pronoun police Michelle.

Being happy with either is one of those mind-boggling nonsenses I really can't get my head around, but there you go. Even the factions who subscribe to it can't, of which this is a clear indication. The Guardian has indulged all this to the letter and yet is still hoist by its own petard.

Which is the expression I was looking for in the first place.

I think what that should say "If Eddie doesn't know himself we certainly don't have a scoobie".

When I read this I heard it in John Cleese’s voice in a Monty Python sketch.

Struck me straight away that it's definitely Python-esque with the constant about turns, next that'll actually use the Holy Grail credits!

I remember when Eddie was funny, I bought the Guardian and I could genuinely vote for Labour, the Lib Dems or the Green Party without feeling ashamed.

And we were in Europe, too.
