Trans people have been self IDing into women's or men's spaces foe decades and this has been protected since the Equality act. Self ID for a GRC would not change this. Specific 'hot topics' like refuges and prisons are red herrings because all prison placements are risk assessed anyway and refuges are a good example of where there may be a reasonable legitimate aim to deny a trans woman say. That decision though is to be determined by the refuge and is not a ban.

I am not aware of how this systematically affects women because prior to the Christian right spreading their influence and funding a few years ago, no one cared.

Men had no business ever coming into women's spaces. They weren't allowed in but crept in anyway. Women never wanted them in. We were never bloody asked though, were we. Just because many men choose to be abusive it's never, ever ok to encourage them to be abusive.

But they were risk assessed as though they were women on the risk assesment software, which meant that their risk was grossly underestimated.
There are no maximum security prisons for women, and so some trans prisoners automatically drop down a security level by entering women's prisons as there is no comparable facilities. Many of the female guards are also disadvantaged compared to their size and strength.
It has been a PR disaster for trans people allowing trans inmates from the male estate to swap to female prisons.
The amount of rapists and murderers who have identified as female to take advantage of the loophole has gone through the roof, some of whome are undoubtedly doing it to gain access to women.
It has resulted in enormous amounts of negative publicity for the trans community and the obvious conflict of rights between vulnerable female prisoners being housed with convicted rapists and female stalkers and murderers is undeniable.

I don’t think they anticipated the pregnancies in the women’s jails in California. Well well well who could have predicted that?

The equality act 2010 in fact states unequivocally that transwoman (people with a penis specifically - that's for any lurkers who might think it means females who identify as men) can be excluded from women's spaces.

So the fact people with a penis have been using women's spaces for decades only goes to show the lack of respect people with a penis have for women's boundaries.

Transsexuals have been accessing women's spaces (still women were not consulted and the numbers were small) but who is now considered Trans has grown massively and the original cause has been hijacked just like LGB rights have been

you'd think so, wouldn't you but it seems that traumatised women are simply not allowed their own spaces despite the exemptions in the Equality Act 2010.

That decision though is to be determined by the refuge and is not a ban.

At one refuge, women asked for a meeting with staff and sobbed while they explained their valid reasons why they did not want males to access the service. They were ignored and there was a denial that the meeting had ever taken place. There was no consideration for the needs of the women using the service and there has been anecdotal evidence that women are not accessing services they need because the service is mixed sex.
