www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2021/08/15/free-speech-victory-eton-master-cleared-teaching-watchdog-sacked/

He has a rather old-fashioned idea of "radical feminism"! I haven't heard the world-without-men meme since about 1975. Nowadays we just want men to stop hurting us and discriminating against us.

Also, he does look a bit of a tw*t.

Haha yes I don't suppose anyone actually wants "a world without men" because aside from the fact the human population would die out....

Most Feminists actually rather like men. Just not the ones who treat women badly. Or the ones that are criminals and perverts. Or the ones who say "you feminists, y'all hate men when I'll tell you what without us you'd all die of starvation...."

Anyway. Twat yes.
Deserving of free speech? Yes. Like the rest of us.

MoreRainThanAnyYet · 16/08/2021 17:56

I must say that ‘cleared by TRA’ had me puzzled.

Aparallaxia · 16/08/2021 18:01

The Teaching Regulation Agency was new to me, too, but I live in the US.

I used to teach at a university that had quite a few Old Etonians in the student population, and they were so hard to teach. They thought they knew everything already and didn’t like a woman showing them that they didn’t.

One argument in the video states that the eradication of men would mean “90 per cent of the world’s present day population would die of starvation. The women that survived such a calamity would likely revert to a primitive life based on horticulture”.

Lol! I think we’d manage very well after the initial period of grief. Like the baboon(?) colony where all the greedy alpha males ate poison, and everyone lived happily ever after.

Men in a world where women were eradicated though? It would be Mad Max from Day 1 and it would keep getting worse.

I’m not in favour of eradicating men, for sentimental reasons. But I think it takes an immense amount of blindness to women’s contributions and to male vs female behaviour generally to reach the quoted conclusion!

Thelnebriati · 16/08/2021 18:30

One argument in the video is that women can't operate large machines, as the machines are too big.
I think women would be smart enough to build machines to fit us, but thats probably just my inner misandrist coming out.

I wonder if our feeble lady-brains could work out some kind of lever or pulley-system to make the existing machines easier to operate.

Probably not as we’d be too busy skipping through flowery meadows thinking about kittens wearing a cute hat or something.

It’s not like any women are engineers is it?

Aparallaxia · 16/08/2021 18:41

I think a society in which males over 12 aren't allowed out except with a woman guardian to keep them in check would actually work pretty well. Also they'd have to wear a long black robe with a tiny little slit at eye-level. That would keep them from running away.

Yes, that is a joke. The Taliban are not.

Daisy Daisy Daisy Daisy

Oops! Sorry I was just skipping through a flower meadow...

... thinking bout the Women's Engineering Society; Ciara Heraty, Cruz Landa, Sam Inskip, all under 25 years old when they started driving heavy plant - easy to Google too!

And many of the girls and youg women I taught doing various farming courses, degrees etc.

And football, baseball...

How sad we are!

Thelnebriati · 16/08/2021 19:23

Well, quite. The video also said something about women not being able to farm because we are too tiny to handle large livestock but I was laughing so hard I couldn't take it all in.

Nachthex · 16/08/2021 21:18

He's quite quaint really. Bit of a throwback, I'd say, but good luck to him - he can say what he thinks, I won't shoot him down. Dismantle his arguments, most certainly, but wouldn't try to stop him making them. Though I did laugh at the line in the report (haven't watched the vid) about men being stronger and more capable of physical work than women - slight paraphrase. I wonder how many Etonians earn their living from manual labour? Grin

NiceGerbil · 16/08/2021 22:23

Is he a bit dim?

Who does he think produces loads of the world's food :/

NiceGerbil · 16/08/2021 22:25

And always have ..

He thinks the whole world is industrialised and run by men with big man machines?! That laydees can't operate with their feeble bodies and substandard intelligence...?!!

NiceGerbil · 16/08/2021 22:25

He's not a geographer or a historian or anything like that I assume.

NiceGerbil · 16/08/2021 22:27

www.fao.org/3/x0262e/x0262e16.htm

Just in case he bimbles through this thread while surfing the net in a masculine manner.

NiceGerbil · 16/08/2021 22:30

Wiki-

Horticulture is the art of cultivating plants in gardens to produce food and medicinal ingredients, or for comfort and ornamental purposes. Horticulturists are agriculturists who grow flowers, fruits and nuts, vegetables and herbs, as well as ornamental trees and lawns.

See women would be unable to grow crops cos of getting distracted by the desire for a nice shrubbery a la the Knights who say Ni.

Obviously.

And flowers for our hair.

NiceGerbil · 16/08/2021 22:33

Maybe it's because women can't work together to do stuff because we end up arguing over who has the prettiest nose.

Working together for the common good is for Man. Efficient and organised. Rational. You never ever see men acting through base emotion. Ever.

ShingleBeach · 16/08/2021 22:38

Is he a bit dim?

And have the TRA not noticed?

If I had a child at Eton I think I would want a refund.

Or is it a deliberately provocative and preposterous intervention designed to get students to argue back using their own observations, commonly obtained facts etc?

ArabellaScott · 16/08/2021 23:03

I started watching but drifted off. Clip art was below par, I would say.

BitterAndOnlySlightlyTwisted · 16/08/2021 23:31

I watched that presentation on YouTube a while back and from memory I understand that it was produced for a debate by his 17/18 year-old students. Not that he agreed 100% with the content himself. I approve of encouraging debate regardless of which side I find myself or who I find disagreement with.

I once tutored a very nice Old Etonian who didn't seem to have a problem with my be8n female at all. Old Harrovians were far more likely to be wankers in my experience.

Old Harrovians. Please, God, no...

@BitterAndOnlySlightlyTwisted That's my impression too.

I listened to a podcast interview with him and he did explain its a compilation of views on one side of a debate and the point is to get them to argue merits - not that he personally believes it all, and that it is deliberately excessive. He came across as quite reasonable and very concerned that there was no discussion on this video with the staff member who registered complaint as there would normally be, and they moved just to ban it and kick him out. He had done plenty of controversial topics prior with no problems.
