Women in the military - investigation

Pretty depressing read. At least it's being investigated. A start, perhaps.

'Women in the armed forces who are victims of bullying, harassment, discrimination and serious sexual assault are being "denied justice" by a "woefully inadequate" military complaints process, MPs have said.

The defence committee heard evidence from more than 4,000 women - including veterans and those still serving.

MPs said they were "truly shocked" by accounts of sexual assault and rape.

The Ministry of Defence said changes had been made to help women.

In a landmark report, MPs on the defence select committee say cases of serious sexual assault and rape should be taken out of the military justice system and tried in civilian courts instead.

Convictions for rape in the military are four to six times lower than in civilian courts. '

Convictions for rape in the military are four to six times lower than in civilian courts.

I genuinely wouldn't have thought that was possible.

And who are these MPs and civil servants in the MoD who have refused to really hear what people have been telling them for so long?

This from February;

''Fears minister has jeopardised effort to stop military trying UK rape cases
“We were promised a review of all the guidance and policies on the handling of sexual violence cases in the armed forces, which the defence secretary accepts need serious attention,” one of the women said.
“But we are now really worried that the minister appears to be misrepresenting to parliament what his own independent expert has said and advised,”

There have been reports on this on the news for years.

MPs shocked?

Again?

Why are they always shocked at things that pretty much everyone who reads the news etc is totally aware of.
