Registered sex offender able to stand in MP election.

It seems at the moment that being a registered sex offender doesn't bar someone from standing as a candidate for election as an MP.

Thank goodness that a woman in Hartlepool has started to take this forward.

Good for her. Depressingly there's a link under the article to details of another man who's got away murder by claiming that he "accidentally" choked a woman to death during sex.
The willingness of the (presumably) male judiciary and police to accept his claim is depressing.

(Sorry for the derail AfternoonToffee )

I guess the good news is that a lot more women in Hartlepool have had a heads up to stay a million miles away from this particular sex offender. Jesus. The story of what he did is horrible Sad

AntiSocialDistancer · 15/07/2021 21:26

Well done Sarah 👏

We don't need, or want, nonces as our MPs/SMPs.

Deliriumoftheendless · 15/07/2021 21:59

One could get quite suspicious about a thing like this.

EsmaCannonball · 15/07/2021 22:26

The ex-convict who allegedly made the 'Kill J.K. Rowling' placard at the recent Pride march apparently wants to be the first UK trans M.P. I know women who won't apply for jobs if they don't have one of the required skills but men won't let little matters like kidnap, torture and attempted murder hold them back from high public office. And we're told that even being accused of a crime destroys a man's life. It certainly doesn't destroy his confidence.

NotTheFunKindOfFeminist · 15/07/2021 22:39

I thought our Eddie was tipped to be the first trans MP?

EsmaCannonball

Thank you for your post.

I'm going to paraphrase, and use it for women whom I mentor at work when they are going for promotions/placements.

Interview with the woman that he filmed; he was prosecuted for illegal filming but his victim makes other allegations that did not reach trial.

ScreamingMeMe · 16/07/2021 12:18

Now Hartlepool Council is to write to the Secretary of State demanding legislative change to stop registered sex offenders standing for public office.

How is this not already the case??

PurpleHoodie · 16/07/2021 13:37

A very valid question.
