My favourite gym shop. They've jumped on the bandwagon too and it will make me rethink shopping there.

here

and here

The used to refuse to allow men to teach or attend their in store classes. Now they don't think women's sports are solely for women.

@WhyMrsRobinson

Mr Google says.. 33.75 million (2019) Women in Britain.

The government estimates 200, 000 - 500, 000 trans people. Not just trans women.

!

500k is roughly the number of Scottish ppl in London iirc. Thing is I've met loads of Scots in London. Trans ...not so much Grin
IsabelGowdie · 10/07/2021 18:04

Oh balls! I bloody love SB.

Sylvan92 · 10/07/2021 18:11

@Saltyslug

That’s my pet hate, liking stereotypically ‘girly things’ and the assumption this makes someone a girl
My dd hates ‘girly things’. Is she not a girl then? Hmm
WhyMrsRobinson · 10/07/2021 22:51

Abhannmor that’s funny! I’m trying to think of a funny reply and failing miserably. 🤪

EishetChayil · 11/07/2021 00:33

As ever, corporate inclusion = men dressing up as women. Box ticked. It conveniently means they don't have to worry about pesky things like inclusive sizing and pricing, paying adequate wages, etc.

Mrsjamin · 11/07/2021 06:52

Well I'm not buying from them again. Ffs! Can they not see how women who buy their stuff don't want men competing with women in sport? All the corporate pride stuff is so shit, just a woke box ticking exercise without actually understanding the implications on women's rights.

bakingdemon · 11/07/2021 08:06

That's disappointing, esp when the charity initiative they launched earlier this year seemed to be really good stuff on encouraging girls to do more sport. I generally love their stuff so was also disappointed to get a brush off when I asked if they had any plans to do a maternity range.

@CrouchEndTiger12

Shocks me some of the prejudices I see in the comments. If you put the word black or coloured in for trans and it sounds bad it because it is.

It’s horrid some of the stuff people say on here!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 11/07/2021 08:27

Which prejudice is that? Report any genuinely transphobic comments to Mumsnet.

EdgeOfACoin · 11/07/2021 09:07

The quote from the article is:

Ever since I could express myself, I’ve gravitated towards “girly” things and felt like I was a girl

I thought the entire ideology was nothing to do with stereotypes. Please could you help me understand this quote, then, Justa47? Does liking "girly" things make one a girl? Is it transphobic to be sceptical about such a comment?

If someone were to say that they liked "black" things and therefore that made them black, I would find that a terribly offensive and racist comment. Please can you help me understand how liking "girly" things is not comparably sexist?

I am genuinely open to having my mind changed on this, if someone can explain it to me logically.

EdgeOfACoin · 11/07/2021 09:09

I've also always found Sweaty Betty far too overpriced anyway.

IsabelGowdie · 11/07/2021 10:13

I wonder how much market research they have done on this, and whether it will quietly die a death.

I would imagine the average repeat customer for SB is not going to be a woke teenager but I reckon a 30 plus woman with a bit of disposable income. They do not tend to be people who buy into the idea that getting your cock and balls out in front of a naked 6 year old girl in a spa locker room is a great idea.

So while I can see some people buying the trans sweatshirt as a one off. It won’t be the folk that buy 4 pairs of power leggings and a couple of tops each year that will be putting it in their basket.

I reckon it will be a lot more successful in the US market. Indeed, when I first clicked onto it the prices came up as dollars.

It will be a box tick for the UK.

Tinysalmonswimminginastream · 11/07/2021 10:35

Yes, it's Sweaty Betty central round my way, but the women who wear it are far more likely to be gender critical, or just have no awareness or care for the issue in general, than a virtue signalling teen.

Not really bothered about a GNC male modelling the clothes as long it's acknowledged that it's not a female model.

Personally I think SB is total emperors new clothes and you can get better sportswear for much cheaper so have never bought a single item from there.

Norma27 · 11/03/2022 07:55

I was just about to buy 3 pairs of leggings then looked more deeply into their work getting girls into sport. Including males who want to. Am now donating to save womens sports and to keep prisons single sex instead.

DomesticatedZombie · 11/03/2022 08:02

Girly things can fuck right off.

Norma27 · 11/03/2022 08:14

Been drinking already zombie?
