Save The Children on Instagram- “One parent’s tips for raising a transgender child”

Save The Children has just posted this on their Instagram account (and presumably Facebook but I haven’t checked):

To mark the last week of #Pride month, one parent at @savechildrenUK shared their experience of raising a child who began identifying as a boy aged seven. 🏳️‍⚧️

During Pride month and every month, we stand with the LGBTQI+ family across the UK and around the world. ❤️

'I try not to focus on where this has come from or where it's going'

Don't ask questions, for god's sake, whatever you do.

ArabellaScott · 30/06/2021 17:50

Obvs cutting hair short means girl becomes boy.

ArabellaScott · 30/06/2021 17:50

ACCEPT ACCEPT ACCEPT

Do not question. You may feel upset or uneasy BUT ultimately children must be given everything they ask for no matter what

AngeloMysterioso · 30/06/2021 17:50

I mean... five!! They started this shit when that poor child was five years old.

Welp that's my Amazon Smile donation going elsewhere...

'without feeling constrained by the reactions of others' - because this hyper individualism considers other people to be unimportant when in context of pursuing some vague aspiration framed as 'identity'. Never mind how our actions might affect others.

Isn’t Princess Anne a Parton? I can’t quite see her as a believer.

'Save the children' indeed.

From sexist parents for a start, and that rather sinister suggestion that puberty is looming and decisions will need to be made straight afterwards. Jesus.

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 30/06/2021 17:57

Will go careful what I say but 🤬🤬🤬 so sick and tired of this now.

I thought Save The Children were there to help children in Yemen, Syria, Ethiopia etc? Children in the most terrifying circumstances, in dire need of humanitarian protection and aid?

What the hell are they doing, getting involved in this? Woke points presumably?

Hazycoffeek · 30/06/2021 17:58

That last slide:

‘Visit the experts’ with a link to Mermaids.

No words.

Forgotthebins · 30/06/2021 17:59

I guess they can’t see how they play into stereotypes with things like the haircut representing “gender”. I wish, I really wish, that these people could see that it’s treating the stereotypes as laws written in stone that is damaging to children’s mental health, not the shapes of their young, still developing bodies.

coronabeer · 30/06/2021 18:03

Nice link to mermaids at the end!

Obviously, a 5 year old has limited understanding but why don't the parents ask more before "changing gender"? Ask what the child understands by boy and girl, what the differences are, what can boys do that girls can't and vice versa. At that age it is pretty much hairstyles, clothing and hobbies/interests - none of which are proof of anything. I shudder to think how much a child will be f*cked up in the long term after always being referred to as being of the opposite sex.

If this parent allowed his/her child to have a tattoo at the age of 5, they would rightly be condemned because a child so young is too young to decide something like that.

There’s also been a statement in support of trans and non-binary people, which is fine but I thought the charity was for children not adults?

PRESS CONTROVERSY

Over the past few weeks, there’s been a bit of a press storm centring on incorrect information about Stonewall’s Diversity Champions programme, and Stonewall’s advice around gender identity and the protected characteristic of gender reassignment in the Equality Act 2010.

I give only to small local charities now, like the local air ambulance. All the big national charities are just businesses Sad. And trying to work their way up the Stonewall league because - err, because .... . Nope. Got nothing for a 'because'.
Melroses · 30/06/2021 18:14

I'm not sure big charities like this actually know what a child is any more.

They are just about turning money over and tick boxing the latest training that's going round.

I wouldn't be surprised if they start out-sourcing their actual work to other charities or something.

AngeloMysterioso · 30/06/2021 18:29

Not many comments on their Instagram so far but it’ll be interesting to see what response it gets on Facebook- fb.watch/6soPgSQ7YA/

Oh this is disappointing as I've had the Wonderbooks subscription for a while with them. Any suggestions for alternative child focused charities?

blublub · 30/06/2021 19:46

As @melroses said above stick to local charities where you can see where the money is going to in your local community. Left a comment on fb but expect it to be removed. It’s gaslighting children and child abuse.

www.theguardian.com/global-development/2020/sep/11/save-the-children-can-resume-funding-bids-following-sexual-abuse-scandal

'Dozens of staff were dismissed from Save the Children International in 2019 as reported child safeguarding incidents rose by more than half, according to the charity's latest accounts.

'In March, the Charity Commission said Save the Children had let down staff and the public over its handling of alleged sexual harassment and inappropriate behaviour by senior managers, including former chief executive Justin Forsyth, and Brendan Cox, former policy director and the widower of murdered MP Jo Cox.'

'The charity Save the Children can resume bids for government funding after it withdrew from the process two years ago over a sexual misconduct scandal.'

And from a different source.

The number of incidents increased by more than 200 year on year to 589, up from 369 in 2018, the accounts for the year to 31 December 2019 show.'

NiceGerbil · 30/06/2021 19:50

These things get forgotten so quickly.

LazyHorizon · 30/06/2021 19:53

Sinister wording. Horrifying that Save the Children is stretching their remit like this. Here’s hoping an enterprising GC intern changes the ‘experts’ link to a Munchausens by proxy awareness charity.
