Can someone who is more expert in social media help me? Royal Academy social media team seem to have been heavily instrumental in the Jess de Wahl travesty. I suppose the shop started the whole debacle but the social media team branded Jess a bigot.

But the head of their social media Adam Koszary has today tweeted one comment: 'google, define performative'.

What does this mean? Does he think that the furore was performative on the part of women defending Jess? Or is he saying that he doesn't approve of the apology that the RA tweeted (but I note have not put on their Instagram).

I guess it's his personal account so maybe not related to the work stuff. But it irks me that it feels like a dismissive comment on the Jess de Wahl issue.

Maybe I need to step away from social media

Hmm, that does seem very “teenage subtweet” and designed to position him as superior to something

IvyTwines2 · 23/06/2021 12:14

The Royal Academy's apology tweet doesn't mention Jess de Wahls by name, and the link takes you to their main site and you then have to search for the apology, which again doesn't make it clear from the title/headline what it's about - it just says, vaguely, 'Media Statement from the Royal Academy of Arts' and links to a PDF. It all feels very reluctant, especially when coupled with that stage whisper from the sidelines by this Adam person.

bastardmonkfisher · 23/06/2021 12:18

Right!! Thank you so much. Just feels like the whole thing has been dragged out of them and they have done it to save face and avoid being sued. It's got to me that he is undermining it (if he is and I accept that it may be unrelated).

I just despair.

His tweet is getting some love from the 'vagina museum', unsurprisingly.

LazyHorizon · 23/06/2021 12:19

Sounds very unprofessional, and inappropriate conduct for someone in that senior post. Perhaps the RA need to reconsider their HR decisions too.

IvyTwines2 · 23/06/2021 12:22

I'm reminded of that bit in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory where the children have their fingers crossed behind their backs.

InspiralCoalescenceRingdown · 23/06/2021 12:32

I expect he's just salty because he's probably ultimately accountable for the shitstorm.

teawamutu · 23/06/2021 12:38

I'd quite like to RT and bring in Axel Ruger. But that would be petty, wouldn't it?

TomatoesAreFruit · 23/06/2021 12:40

Check out his tweet of the 7 May.

LemonJuiceFromConcentrate · 23/06/2021 12:54

Has he deleted the tweet you posted about, OP?

In spite of myself (procrastinating, should be working) I went to have a look at the 7 May tweet mentioned by a pp but I can’t see anything notable from that date, and nor can I see the “define performative” one now.

Meh, what silliness (him, not this thread)

LemonJuiceFromConcentrate · 23/06/2021 12:56

Ah yes:

He's protected his tweets now.

teawamutu · 23/06/2021 12:58

Is this really his actual job? Does he not know how social media works?

LemonJuiceFromConcentrate · 23/06/2021 12:58

Twat

PankhurstConnection · 23/06/2021 13:01

@LemonJuiceFromConcentrate

Twat
That about sums it up Grin
bastardmonkfisher · 23/06/2021 13:01

He has deleted it! And has protected his tweets.

Mollyollydolly · 23/06/2021 13:02

He's deleted it but screenshots were taken and are on twitter. Hopefully he just get a nuclear bollocking.

LemonJuiceFromConcentrate · 23/06/2021 13:05

I noticed from his Twitter bio earlier that he is still coasting on that “absolute unit” viral tweet from forever ago.

Clearly this is a man whose entire ego is so bound up with what the cool kids think of him on social media that he couldn’t resist undermining his own employer with a crappy subtweet at a sensitive moment, just to send out a hint that he is still cool

bastardmonkfisher · 23/06/2021 13:05

Hum

I thought I'd gone a bit mad over all this but your responses support my initial reaction.

It's just not on to undermine the apology.

This is funny!

@teawamutu

Is this really his actual job? Does he not know how social media works?
I think he's about to learn.
Mollyollydolly · 23/06/2021 13:09

I'm not one for demanding people getting sacked, but for their social media lead to do that at the precise time when they issued a well worded statement after a shit storm that's lasted a week and caused them so much repetitional damage .. well I wouldn't trust him in that job and I'd be absolutely incandescent with rage if I was his boss.

EsmaCannonball · 23/06/2021 13:09

Use 'performative' in a sentence.

Transwomen are performative women.

Done today's homework.

Tesla73 · 23/06/2021 13:10

Just had the Glinner Update email come through and its all about this non apology and those tweets

PronounssheRa · 23/06/2021 13:14

He has single handedly undermined his employer and their apology in one tweet.

What a dick
