Parents of transitioners/detransitioners

I have been thinking about how different those voices are. Why I wondered?

And this is what I thought:
If you have walk the walk of trans teens and gradually or suddenly your teen abandons this idea, you just don’t want to give it any more head space. You move on.

But if your teen is there with your support you want to bang on about it and get the social confirmation to reassure yourself and the narrative gets stronger. You consolidate.

What are your thoughts?

Having listened to quite a few detransitioners on YT and reddit I can't say I've seen any of their parents involved.
My instinct would be they (the detransitioners) may feel guilt about their journey and not be keen to involve people they love any further. There is such tremendous pressure on them.
But as ever, I would like to hear first hand from those who have gone/are going through it themselves.

To the OP, yes, I would think you’re right. What you describe surely applies for almost anything to with our DC, or indeed lives in general - ie people talk about/campaign for and against the causes that affect them most and that are in their lives.

Luckily children can relatively easily change their minds, whereas adults can and do to the down the hormonal/surgical route can less easily reverse these actions.

I also think there are some parents who just shout from the rooftops about their trans child as a form of attention seeking - again no different to other attention seeking individuals.

Thanks. I think this willingness or unwillingness to make public a position that the press will pick up is on balance towards those affirming children’s trans status, rather than concerns about gender Disphoria treatments. By the way, Sonia Appleby is on the ET today. Fingers crossed.
