Anyone from Ireland?

I posted on here not long ago asking for some pointers to help me understand the whole trans debate and I got some excellent references and links etc.

I'm Irish living in Ireland but spent a long time living and working in the UK, hence I feel quite at home on Mumsnet and other British sites which is great as I haven't really found anything comparable that's 'Irish'

I was delighted to read of Maya's victory today and registered with the sex-matters organisation but then started wondering if there's a similar group/movement in Ireland. I'm so upset to realise that our government have listed 'gender' as a protected characteristic rather than sex Sad I've been trying to find an Irish group that I could follow for more local information but am struggling to find one that is GC. The National Womens Council seemed like a good fit, I liked their manifesto which begins with the line "Feminism NWCI is a feminist organisation" until I got to the bottom line which reads "By ‘woman’ we refer to any person who identifies as a woman." Confused

So I find myself on here again, asking for pointers! Thanks Smile

@DeeKavCoffee I'm so sorry I pointed out the fact that several of your posts contradicted your claim to be GC, as this was directly relevant to other misleading claims you'd made about the situation in Ireland. How thoughtless of me.

DeeKavCoffee · 10/06/2021 19:32

@Mermoose once again you suppose that to be GC you have to blindly ascribe to a litany of beliefs, and if not, you're GC-status will be revoked.

With that in mind, your apology is accepted. Smile

@DeeKavCoffee why don't you try actually having an honest discussion, instead of pretending that you're something you're not and then trying to score stupid points like this? Do you really feel that your own position is so hard to defend that you can't do so straightforwardly?

Mermoose · 10/06/2021 19:43

Anyway OP, sorry for the derail. Here's the YouTube channel of the Irish Women's Lobby, in case you haven't seen it.

@Mermoose your inability to even accept that your logic or viewpoints might be questioned in any small way is quite pathetic.

i don't know how i'm 'pretending to be something i'm not' by asking questions. Im sure you'd rather i be a good girl and just accept the doctrine at face value, but i've been around a long time and am too wise to those antics to be told precisely what i should believe and shouldn't believe, particularly by someone who is presumably british.

go interrogate someone else and earn for good girl brownie points that way. in the meantime i'll post what i want when i want without listening to someone trying to lord it over others. hope that's honest enough for you.

OP: What about trying the Irish section on mumsnet?

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 10/06/2021 23:13

Thanks everyone lots for me to look at in detail now 👍🏻

I'm often on the Craicnet topic but haven't seen anything about this on it. But again I know I need to spend some time "rooting around" MN a bit more.

I have lots of GC friends in Ireland - but are terrified to speak up so as not to look old fashioned or right wing . The countess is amazing 🤩

I'm in Ireland and am an academic in one of the universities. I'm not at all afraid to speak out but I'm old and don't have long to go until retirement Grin.

Reading twitter and such, you might think universities are hot beds of transactivism but it very much depends on the courses. The SU in most cases are definitely TWAW but the main student body isn't in most schools/faculties. My dd is currently in uni, ds1 finished in a different uni last year and most people they encountered are pretty gender critical. However, they are both in healthcare (neither of them nursing which I suspect might be a bit more woke) and believe in science.

One of my dd's lecturers, when discussing male/female in relation to his topic said anything he said was related to sex and not any of "that arty farty gender nonsense".

Sorry DeeKavCoffee, you can self ID as you wish, but you are the first GC person I've ever read who is in favour of giving healthy children hormones and surgery, while thinking that it was offensive of Maya to refer to a bearded man using the he/him pronouns

Carriemac · 11/06/2021 15:34

@OchonAgusOchonOh my friends in primary / post primary are the ones who have e to be cautious- it's all affirmation and rainbows

purplepizzabunny · 11/06/2021 16:21

Deadline is the 8th so just a few days!

3timeslucky · 08/12/2021 19:24

Sharing a suggestion I've seen made for anyone who made a submission relating to the review of our equality legislation. Forward your submission to your TDs. They are supposed to represent us so should hear our views and be held to account for the shitshow they've created thus far (and may add to if RO'G has his way).
