Just that really. I think I've lost track.
Which parties still support women's sex based rights?

OP posts:

Conservatives, SDP, Alba. Can't immediately think of any others.

All of them have internal fights going on through the "women's declaration" groups.

ArabellaScott · 01/06/2021 09:38

None of them, I'm afraid. There are a few individual MPs who do so, but there are no parties that have come out to openly support women.

ArabellaScott · 01/06/2021 09:40

I wouldn't say the Tories, Necessary. I don't think they have an overarching women-supportive stance. Just some individuals among the MPs.

But yes, SDP, I forgot about thtem. I don't know if Alba are still a thing, are they?

alexyyy · 01/06/2021 10:31

I am following this, because I was trying to find the answer myself the other day. It's astonishing that we are in this position and that even a party specifically set up to protect our rights doesn't......

ArabellaScott · 01/06/2021 10:37

Astonishing and depressing that 'women's rights' is a phrase so controversial in 2021 that no political party (bar the SDP and Alba) can bring themseles to mention it.

NecessaryScene1 · 01/06/2021 11:02

Just some individuals among the MPs.

Wasn't it Liz Truss Day the other day? That's at cabinet level. But I guess you're right, there could be a change of faces and the next minister being less women-friendly.

I agree they don't have specific manifesto/policy stuff on the gender-vs-women thing, unlike SDP + Alba.

ArabellaScott · 01/06/2021 11:31

Truss is just one woman. I have little to no faith that the Govt as a whole gives one iota of a toss about women. We have Caroline Nope on the WESC who would merrily throw women to the wolves given half a chance.

dyslek · 01/06/2021 11:31

Communists, SDP, Alba, Tories (who I was told yesterday by a friend who works in parliment, are pulling out of the gender woo bs faster than even gender critical lobbyists are asking for, apparently the reverse ferriting going on in back rooms quite something so see)

ArabellaScott · 01/06/2021 11:31

Oh, wow, how I would love to see those ferrets run, dyslek.

dyslek · 01/06/2021 11:33

Ooh, dyslek, do you have any more information about that, any details? Is your friend a reliable source?

How exciting.

dyslek · 01/06/2021 13:24

No more details than that Im afraid. My friend is very knowledgeable and generally a good source of info, so fingers crossed.
Job in justice dep, where it is all going down, iykwim.

CatrinVennastin · 01/06/2021 13:34

Excellent news @dyslek

TheABC · 01/06/2021 13:37

Sounds like the shit is hitting the fan in the MoJ, with the impending lawsuits. I simply can't see how locking women up with intact rapists was ever considered a valid idea.

Thanks for responding. And yes, idkwym 😁

Might have thought that the Women's Equality Party might be in that list.

And yet, and yet.

That's very good news. Unlike the other parties, the Tories seem to know what their supporters and the electorate in general want. And I don't think they want gender woo.

That doesn't mean the Tories will deliver what voters want. But it does mean they know not to make stupid woke gestures that alienate all except a few.

Now if only any party on the left or centre would stop playing the woke game.

newnortherner111 · 01/06/2021 20:20

Probably the Monster Raving Loony Party do as well as those listed.

@ArabellaScott your comment about Liz Truss just being one woman in the Conservative Party is spot on. Boris Johnson is a misogynist pure and simple. All the pandemic response and decisions on what restrictions to remove and when have been biased towards benefiting men.

NiceGerbil · 02/06/2021 03:01

None really.

The Tories seem less entranced but you know. Tories.

Other point is.

IMO none of them have ever actually supported women , right or left. Not really.

NannyAndJohn · 02/06/2021 04:07

The Workers Party of Britain is proudly and openly GC if anyone's looking for a left-wing alternative to Labour. George Galloway is marmite but is firmly on our side here.

Wow! I hope this is accurate. The policies coming from the criminal justice system are probably the most damaging to women.

I have genuinely been (pleasantly) surprised by Liz Truss’s most recent statements. I thought at one stage she was going to try to fudge the situation, but it is starting to look as if she has definitively decided to protect women’s rights, which is a total reversal of Theresa May’s stated direction of travel.
