School RSE Consultation

Following on from the news that my child’s school is doing the Jigsaw programme and my letter asking for more information, I have now been asked in for a meeting on Monday with the head and deputy.

I was hoping to do all this through email as I have social anxiety and am scared of authority figures. But no, a meeting for which I will swallow my substantial fears and set off for as this is just too important.

Please could you guide me with the three most important things I should say. I know what it is I want to say and that additional information is available on here, but I just get so anxious and flummoxed in situations like this I can’t remember anything! I just want to try and remember a few key points.

I don’t want to look like a raging phobe and am scared of them fobbing me off or I’ll go off on a tangent about Demi Lovato!

Am getting so worried about it already, apologies.

That's being shown in schools? That is terrifying! Children are being told doctors are wrong? And if this is in the UK, why is the presenter American (or Canadian- I'm so sorry I don't know the different accents)

FindTheTruth · 24/05/2021 13:26

oh my OP 😳....

from the video:

When we talked about gender, we said there aren't just boys and girls.
01:58
You have a really great memory, Teddy.
02:00
You're right. There's something a bit weird about how doctors assign gender to babies.
02:07
That's because there aren't only boys and girls.

FindTheTruth · 24/05/2021 13:28

from the video 2/2:

02:15
Oh, so the doctors are wrong sometimes?
02:19
Yes, Teddy, sometimes doctors don't assign the right genders.
02:23
When a person does not identify, with the gender they're assigned when they're born,
02:28
they are trans or transgender.
02:31
People who are trans can be boys or girls or people too.
02:36
And I can always ask someone their pronouns, just like you taught me.
02:40
That's right, Teddy. There is also another word you should know.
02:44
It's the word "cisgender".
02:46
Someone who is cisgender DOES identify, with the gender they're assigned.
02:52
Okay, since you are assigned "girl" and you use "she", then you are cisgender.
02:58
That is exactly right, Teddy.

FemaleAndLearning · 24/05/2021 13:34

Queer Kids!
Where is the B it says LGQTon the board? Not teaching them their letters!
What a load of bollocks.
Assign gender
Not just boys and girls
Doctors are wrong sometimes
Can be boys or girls or people!
Pronouns
Cis gender

I would scrutinise their policies before you go to that meeting too if you haven't already done so. You can do this by email.
Equality Policy
Bullying Policy
Possibly SEN policy
The most up to date RSE policy. These should all be available on their website.
Do they use sex or gender in these documents. If they use gender they are mis representing the Equality Act 2010. I would also send them the Red Flags document by Sage Schools Alliance number 9 on this list. Don't link to it download it and attach as a PDF or print a copy off and take to the meeting. Share with like minded parents. SSA also have letter templates you can use.

I went with a friend when I had a meeting with junior school as I too not good anxiety wise and she was very calm and measured against my emotional self! The head was skeptical but after reading all our information they have updated their policies and have stated in their RSE they will not be going above and beyond what the curriculum suggests (this was before the updated guidance last year mentioned up thread). Good luck.

I know. That video has blown my mind. I’ve started a new thread about it as I’ve had people DM about it, and tbh I am so appalled, I think it needs sharing.

As a result of me raising concerns about this video, I now have my face to face meeting back! Grin
Never thought I’d smile at saying that, so huge thanks to all the GC vipers who’ve given me confidence to do this x

Well done OP.
I feel sorry for schools - they're on the receiving end of so much incoming - resources, training, advice, lecturing and with young teachers having been indoctrinated with these ideologies in universities, IF it seems to come from a credible source they abandon their critical thinking and just assume that it's the latest development they were unaware of.
Spotting the the ethical problems, the anti science guff, the deep rooted misogyny is really hard. Parents are incredibly powerful in all this as if we all passively accept that Stonewall et al know best..... this travesty of a video is where we end up.
Maybe make bullet points of the key messages that you want to get over? This stuff can be hard to talk about and a few notes can help.

ConcreteUnderpants · 24/05/2021 20:19

I have found an ally!! From my very outing posts, a parent from the same school has contacted me!

Still having the meeting on my own, but just to know another parent hasn’t drunk the KoolAid is amazing.

God, I do love MN at times! Grin

I wonder how they marry this video with their lessons on puberty? Body changes in girls and boys? Periods? The school really hasn't thought this through and will end up confusing the children even more! All power to you OP and I hope more parents come out of the woodwork to support you.

bingowingsmcgee · 25/05/2021 12:25

So forgive my ignorance, but has the curriculum for rse in ks2 changed recently? My kids are currently in years 4 and 5, and am I right in thinking this trans agenda is going to be on the curriculum for Sept 2021?

ConcreteUnderpants · 25/05/2021 12:43

@bingowingsmcgee schools themselves can decide when to introduce LGBT relationships now.
In my children’s school this starts right from reception with the 2 daddies/2 mummies idea. Have you been asked about the RSE consultation in your school?

OP posts:
bingowingsmcgee · 25/05/2021 12:59

concrete thanks, no we've not heard anything.

FrancesGumm · 25/05/2021 17:42

OP - that video is terrible! I’ve been given an overview of the lesson plans and I am going to be sending an email in about how they plan on teaching gender identity /transphobia etc - just pulling things together from the wonderful mumsnet threads !

ConcreteUnderpants · 25/05/2021 18:04

@FrancesGumm Good luck!
All I’ve managed to get is a scheme of work outlining what would be covered in each year group (under each section), but no actual lesson plans despite asking my school twice.
Can’t find anything additional on the internet either. Would be very interested to know if anyone else has managed to get hold of them.

Good template letters on Transgender Trrend and Safe School Alliance website if you need inspiration!

FrancesGumm · 25/05/2021 18:08

OP - I’m in East Sussex and they use ‘educator solutions’ - and apparently most of the East Sussex schools are signed up to this.
I’ll have a look at those websites too thanks.

Leafstamp · 22/06/2021 14:16

Just bumping this thread as my school (secondary) have their consultation this week. Does anyone have any updates or further hints and tips?

@FrancesGumm, could you share any of your email you mentioned?

ValancyRedfern · 22/06/2021 19:34

Did you have this meeting OP? I've not heard back from dd's school consultation. I need to chase them as I'm sure they're hoping I've forgotten....

OhHolyJesus · 08/07/2021 21:22

I'm also interested to hear, any progress OP? News of Jigsaw hitting my school has arrived and I'm mining old threads for the red flags, of which there is no shortage...

Leafstamp · 08/07/2021 22:13

OhHoly. I trust you be found this: safeschoolsallianceuk.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Parents-Guide-to-external-PSHE-RSE-providers.pdf. Page 28

MrsOvertonsWindow · 08/07/2021 22:43

Transgender Trend's very useful analysis of the guideline breaching materials for schools coming from "Just Like Us" - and unbelievably promoted by the Stonewall captured DfE :

OhHolyJesus · 08/07/2021 23:04

Thanks Leaf I did. Reading it all now. Quite a few PSHE providers on there, money for old rope really, they must be making a fortune.
