10 Yr old girl saying she's a boy

I've been following the FWR board for a while. I would be called a TERF and am very worried about what's happening in relation to confusing sex and gender. I'm jot tje most eloquent person but I've learnt a lot from these boards over tje years.

Anyway, the reason I'm not posting is because I am a teacher and a girl in my class told me the other day that she doesn't like being a girl and wants to be a boy and she has asked to go by a new nickname which could be a boys or a girls name (think Alexandra who was nicknamed Sandra and now called Alex). Her parents are affirming and so have asked that at school we do thd same.

Is there anything I should do?

Surely you have guidance to follow?

I think schools affirming this leaves children with nowhere to go when they change their minds and want to be Alexandra again.
I questioned a friend who is a teacher, as she was talking about a “boy” in her class. She wants to be kind, but when i questioned further it boiled down to “I would lose my job if I said that this was a girl” .
So you are in an impossible position OP.

Sorry for typos, was typing in a hurry on my phone at the same time as doing after school snacks for my own kids.

Need to ask about guidance but I don't think my school does. I can imagine my borough does and that it would be blindly informed by stonewall.

Regardless of guidance though, I'm not a robot and can't just switch of everything I know. It would be morally reprehensible to do that.
