Murder of women

I am feeling so disgusted and frankly terrified of men / the world right now reading about TWO women who've been murdered on the street by strange men in a week! Wtf is wrong with men that think they have the right to rape, assault and kill women they see? After the Sarah Everard case, and now these two women I just feel totally helpless.

Being hyperbolical here, but can we chemically castrate all men? Give them curfews and only allow them out with a female relative? I'm just sick of this world right now.

I like the idea of a male curfew after every serious assault /murder by men. It would be so inconvenient that it might spur some kind of action to do something about it. Because men need to do something about it. We have centuries of evidence that women cannot effect that change on men's behalf.

Thecatonthemat · 08/05/2021 23:23

The only trouble with the curfew for men idea is that they will just take it out on the women at home. At least they have arrested a man for one of them...

I’ve flippantly said for a long time that male children should be given an injection at birth or at least puberty. But increasingly I’m wondering whether some sort of hormone treatment is actually the key and they could be granted a temporary licence to resume normal testosterone production for reproductive purposes only... of course this got very short shrift on Twitter and will never fly as long as men as in charge. There’s nothing in it for them to address male violence against women.

Male 'power over' women is woven into the fabric of society. We need to dismantle it all. It's going to be a hell of a battle.

Err...no.

Not all men are like this!

Thecatonthemat · 09/05/2021 17:34

There seem to be an increasing number of them Dolphin Does this not deserve comment other than NAMALT? Do we know of any instances where men are worrying about it and trying to deal with other men’s propensity to murder?

Lemmen · 09/05/2021 17:41

Did someone actually just "not all men"? As a serious comment?

FightingtheFoo · 09/05/2021 17:46

Not all men but always men

TheQueef · 09/05/2021 17:49

Are you being ironic Dolphin?

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 09/05/2021 17:53

No, not all men but far too many men!

And no I don't think castrating them is an answer, but it's so sad and frustrating to know that other men don't seem to care beyond shrugging their shoulders. 'Nothing to do with me' types.

It reminds me of something I read on here recently which said that for some men the worst thing about male violence is that it makes them look bad!

If we bring it up as an issue they get so defensive and talk about how poor men are murdered too - yeah, by other men!! Why is that women's problem to solve?!

Sorry for the rant OP, I totally get it. Another man in Ireland up in court this week for strangling his wife, because she wanted to leave him Angry. Seems to be almost every week.

MrGHardy · 09/05/2021 21:05

I have seen quite a few things on here that as a man at first seemed a bit extreme but then after thinking went yea ok, agreed, or at least ok I get it.

But some of the comments in this thread including OP's are bananas.

@Latinista

It's not the testosterone. There are plenty of men who have high levels that can control themselves. I think blaming behaviour on hormones is a get out for violent men. These men choose when to be violent and who to attack. The levels of male violence are a result of our society, culture, upbringing. It's another negative effect of a patriarchal male dominated society.

I have known men for my whole life who have never been violent or aggressive ever. It's clearly perfectly possible, but for too many men it benefits them to be aggressive, unpleasant and violent to people they perceive as weaker, usually women.

Not all men are like this - saying it like it is.
