I think its very unlikely given who the DUP are. The next leader will probably be more so. The DUP are homophobic, racist, sectarian and keep being voted in here sadly simply in order to prevent "them uns" getting power.

That’s the Guardian writer’s point - that she might have been ousted for being insufficiently homophobic to keep her party’s base happy.

I think they want someone more extreme so they can twist the arm of the EU/Uk Gov, appear more scary - no one wants troubles to restart long term.

Or possibly it’s just that, as a fervent Brexit supporter, as DUP leader she accepted Westminster’s Brexit £1 billion bung and it’s finally dawned that Brexit has sold NI down the river?
