I don't have the words or intellect to call in with anything useful, and way to nervous to do so. But hopefully it will be worth and a listen, they just had Sharon Davies on & Andrew Castle totally gets it. Obviously they are talking about on the back of what CJ has said. Having said that, they are now back on vaccines..... I'll keep the post anyway in case more people phone in on the trans debate.

Thanks for the heads up. I listened to the last five minutes when Penny phoned in. Penny, a trans woman agreed that for professional sport it was unfair for women to have to play with trans women and Penny said that is because men are stronger than women.

Then Andrew Castle spoke about the Williams sisters and when they played a ‘lower level’ man who thrashed them easily. Andrew totally agreed - sadly I was too late to hear Sharron.

Penny was sad though as Penny has transitioned a year or so ago and wasn’t allowed to play in tournaments with women even though other fitter women ran rings around Penny. The problem for me though is there have to be rules . Penny sounds very nice , but I still don’t think that the male sex should play in specified single sex teams , amateur or otherwise. Unless it’s a league that specifies mixed sex (I’m sure some sports do?)

Presumably, other competition categories are open to Penny but those aren't seen as suitable.

There are mixed sex sports and leagues - whether or not those sports are attractive is a different matter. And, for some of those sports, there are various point systems that reflex the sex make up of the team and how many can be on the pitch/court/whatever at the time (eg, wheelchair rugby).

Sharron Davis and Andrew Castle stating the obvious.

This (from Wikipedia):

1998: Karsten Braasch vs. the Williams sisters
Editt*
Another event dubbed a "Battle of the Sexes" took place during the 1998 Australian Open[56] between Karsten Braasch and the Williams sisters. Venus and Serena Williams had claimed that they could beat any male player ranked outside the world's top 200, so Braasch, then ranked 203rd, challenged them both. Braasch was described by one journalist as "a man whose training regime centered around a pack of cigarettes and more than a couple of bottles of ice cold lager".[57][56] The matches took place on court number 12 in Melbourne Park,[58] after Braasch had finished a round of golf and two shandies. He first took on Serena and after leading 5–0, beat her 6–1. Venus then walked on court and again Braasch was victorious, this time winning 6–2.[56] Braasch said afterwards, "500 and above, no chance". He added that he had played like someone ranked 600th in order to keep the game "fun"[59] and that the big difference was that men can chase down shots much easier and put spin on the ball that female players can't handle. The Williams sisters adjusted their claim to beating men outside the top 350.[56]

I missed that. Hopefully it was sensible...

I am surprised about Jenner though - but since they are trying to get into politics, and politicians would sell their own granny or promise free puppies if you vote for them, maybe California is becoming more questioning?

Might even be simpler than that. Perhaps Jenner was simply stating the truth that anyone born male will have an unfair advantage in almost all sports over anyone born female.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 02/05/2021 10:30

Yes of course - but there’s truth and there’s ‘fox truth’ (oh they weren’t happy one bit).

Didn’t Mississippi recently squish legislation trying to stop trans boys completing in girls sports on the back of a large organisation 👿stamping its feet, then hey presto they agreed to build a large facility in that very same state?

Sharon Davis is amazing. She should be in charge of more things.

Excellent speaker. It feels like half a lifetime ago we filled out a hall for an outstanding panel and she looked like a greek goddess. Daley Thompson was 2 rows in front of me and Selina Todd was right behind me.
