This week for me- a conversation about a pre op transman in the male prison estate. Was told that it was against his human rights to keep him in ‘segregated wing’ rather than ‘gen pop’ as it were. (Not the correct terms for areas of the prison, trying to be vague ish).
When pressed person couldn’t point to any specific human right that was being breached. When pressed person couldn’t answer why this prisoners identity would outweigh the need for the prison to keep all inmates safe from disorder harm and/or sexual offending. When pressed person couldn’t answer why we shouldn’t do more to protect this particular transman than simply sticking them in with the men, as though they were one of them in every conceivable sense. Just ‘human rights’.
This person FUCKING AGREED that if prisoner was put in with the guys, it would almost inevitably lead to rape/sexual assault.
This person then FURTHER FUCKING AGREED that if transwomen were to be allowed into general female population, some of them would probably rape or sexually assault female prisoners. But, ya know, human rights.
Mother of God. 😡
