This is incredible news and proves that the goals of the LGB Alliance are good.
From www.gov.uk/government/publications/lgb-alliance
Its purposes are, in summary, to promote equality and diversity and human rights.

I think this paragraph of the Charity Commission’s Full Report is particularly important:

“28. Promoting equality and human rights for lesbian, gay and bisexual people is not unlawful or contrary to public policy. A purpose of promoting the equality and human rights of lesbian, gay and bisexual people is not inherently discriminatory and does not necessarily have the effect of inhibiting the rights of transgender people.”

We already know, there is another thread.

OhHolyJesus · 22/04/2021 09:54

Hi OP, the other thread is here.

By page 2 you can see why we don't want to repeat the process...

LGB Alliance is now a registered charity www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4224234-lgb-alliance-is-now-a-registered-charity

Timestablesaretables · 22/04/2021 10:05

It must have dropped off very quickly after hitting 1000 in such a short space of time. Not that anyone is claiming that some posters would make spurious posts for that reason.
I thought a second thread would be good to get the news to as many on main site as possible. I understand your reasoning OhHoly but I find that the abusive posts and death threats add a lot of sunlight.

It did drop off very quickly. It was. Interesting...

Wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 22/04/2021 10:20

I've never seen a thread on FWR reach 1000 posts in such a short time.

OhHolyJesus · 22/04/2021 10:28

No problem at all OP.

I'm sure this thread will attract equal attention but I'm all for sunlight.

The last was rapidly moving and I was pleased to see it get so much interest and support as well as stay up.

LastRoloIsMine · 22/04/2021 10:36

Wow they have charity status?
That's amazing news and should be mentioned as often as possible Grin

Ivebeeninlockdowntoolong · 22/04/2021 10:40

Yes I had a look at their website. Fantastic news. I've always said I never knew why the 'T' had to be bolted onto the LGB as it always seemed completely out of place.

Wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 22/04/2021 10:47

I've already made a donation.

They don't yet have a Gift Aid option, which is a shame.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 22/04/2021 10:48

Yay. I woke up this morning with 2 things on my mind:

  1. Jim Steinman has died and my music collection will be the poorer
  1. LGBA has now got charity status. The drive for equality and diversity just become more equal and truly diverse Smile
JackieLavertysWeirdVoice · 22/04/2021 10:52

I've just been looking at the LGBA website. I saw their registered charity number and was pleased for them.

They DO have legitimate aims. It's very clear. And fair.

Timestablesaretables · 22/04/2021 17:32

@Wrongsideofhistorymyarse

I've never seen a thread on FWR reach 1000 posts in such a short time.
I must admit it wasn't myself who noticed, but one of my very clever Sisters. @LastRoloIsMine good news is always welcome, even if it's the fiftieth time!

I have to say I have been finding the reaction to this fascinating. It's an LGB charity, that was thoroughly investigated by the Charity Commission before being granted charity status. Yes other charities seem to be very much threatened by this.

I can sort of understand Stonewall being upset as they will now be competing for the same LGB funding, but what possible overlap does eg Mermaids have with an LGB charity.

It's funny, I don't remember for eg the RSPCA and the Dogs Trust having massive public arguments Hmm

MonkeyNotOrgangrinder · 22/04/2021 17:49

Good news! Maybe this thread will be allowed to stick to the subject and not be derailed? 🙏

thirdfiddle · 22/04/2021 17:53

Missed the previous thread entirely so I'm just dropping by to say what fantastic news. I really want to contribute to an organisation that will provide LGB positive support for schools as my kids come up through secondary age. My daughter isn't even of an age to think about her sexuality and has already been subjected to homophobic comments by a classmate. So sad it's still going on. And the people who should be educating them about it came into school trying to convince them that they can't tell the difference between men and women. (Safeguarding any?)

If other charities and even politicians continue trying to smear LGB Alliance it's certainly going to open eyes.

Rhannion · 22/04/2021 18:40

Great news!

MrsSteveMcDonald · 22/04/2021 19:04

Fab news that there is now a charity that will support gay men, lesbians and bi people. It makes a change from the ones that consider them bigots simply for having a perfectly normal sexual orientation.
