Which is the most female friendly Supermarket?

With Waitrose owned by John Lewis who have decided they dont care about female customers that dont want men in their changing rooms I’m trying to work out which is the most female friendly and least unethical supermarket. I have switched to smaller producers directly and have milk delivered but can’t avoid supermarkets completely and wondered which is the least bad?

I was wondering this too, for the same reason. I've emailed JL and Waitrose to complain and am now looking for an alternative place to shop for the times when it's going to be a PITA to avoid a supermarket.

Lidl are about to start providing free period products in their stores in Ireland (another thread about this here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4223636-Lidl-Ireland-to-provide-period-products-free-of-charge ). In the UK, they're the first supermarket to pay all their workers at least the living wage, and the first to stop selling tobacco products.

WhoNeedsaManOfTheWorld · 21/04/2021 15:57

I was a loyal Trescothick customer until they donated to mermaids and featured Jane Fae in an LGBT promotion
Moved to Sainsbury then found out they have mixed sex facilities and pronoun badges
I'm now shopping at Morrisons and hoping they don't cock up
I can't see Aldi doing anything foolish but they don't deliver

WhoNeedsaManOfTheWorld · 21/04/2021 16:01

Why does my phone alter Tesco to Trescothick?
Grinalthough it fits

YouSetTheTone · 21/04/2021 16:06

Damn, I was clinging to a vain hope that Sainsbury might be ok. They're the only other place that stock the Crosta and Mollica pizza bases that I'm unhealthily addicted to.

Trescothick Grin

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/04/2021 17:40

I was thinking that was some sort of Cornish supermarket Grin

Grin

Sainsbury’s had an incident last year where a male employee was secretly filming women in the mixed sex changing room, so not them. Tesco I think did something - supported Mermaids? Waitrose obviously called the definition of “woman” either hate speech or offensive.

MrsSteveMcDonald · 21/04/2021 20:23

I was wondering why I hadn't seen any Trescothick supermarkets down here as it definitely sounds Cornish

AdHominemNonSequitur · 21/04/2021 21:30

Ocado are no longer partnered with Waitrose and they deliver and stock crosta goods. I haven't noticed any anti female nonsense from them. (Or Asda)

DoNotFeedTheTrolls · 21/04/2021 21:37

Sounds like Morrisons, Lidl and Aldi at the moment.

I seem to remember Co-op bank closed a feminist group bank acc but can’t remember who now. I’ve not been keen on the co-op after the Rev Flowers (www.mirror.co.uk/news/weird-news/church-reverend-pictured-crisps-nipples-7547510 for anyone not familiar)

Asda aren’t too bad are they?

I think Morrison’s or Asda.

ChickenonaMug · 21/04/2021 21:41

I also think Morrisons.

This is true but Ocado now partner M&S, who have a similar changing room policy to Waitrose don’t they? It’s a sodding minefield!
MildredPuppy · 21/04/2021 22:31

I know this is focused on changing room policies, but i do wonder about other female friendly aspects too. A big factor is their employment policies for staff. A lot of women work in supermarkets.

LimaFoxtrotCharlie · 21/04/2021 23:03

Have you forgotten Ocado & The Billboard? Ocado do not know what a woman is

I was thinking that may be a bit of a niche supermarket 😅
toffeebutterpopcorn · 21/04/2021 23:18

Which was the one who was sending out packs to kids with inappropriate content? Asda?

Did they backtrack on that when Baroness Nicholson intervened?

Asda haven’t been paying their female employees equally, although they will have to now.

I very rarely buy from M&S these days, occasional item in a petrol station and thats it

Morrisons have a mixed record, 1st supermarket to sign up to min wage of £10/hr which is good but they’ve also has a class action pay discrimination case against them. They don’t have a clear equality policy available on their web site but make some vague words about race and gender on their web site. No anti women support aka Tesco/Jane Fae that I’m aware of.

John Lewis are truly appalling. An incredibly aggressive dishwasher fitter took one look at my difficult to access sink and stormed off to his van then drove off. I called to complain abs was told I was now banned as a customer, after 40 years, because apparently I'd accused him of being a rapist???!!! It remains the most bizarre experience of my life. I've never been given an explanation and they refused to watch my cctv that shows me very friendly and no accusations being made.

jay55 · 22/04/2021 11:31

Tesco had the whole paying their temporary staff by tuxedo card, that cost the staff money to access their pay.
