Tomorrow night.

This event will be hosted by Professor Sarah Childs, author of the Good Parliament Report.

She will put your questions to the panel to find out how we can all support women in getting selected and elected. This is an opportunity to ask about what the parties are looking for in their candidates, how the selection processes work and how they encourage and support women to progress in politics. We welcome men at 50:50 events, we need them with us to make this change.

Learn more about the support 50:50 offers with our fantastic #SignUpToStand programme.

This is your event. We are waiting for your questions!

The Panel includes:

Julie Marson MP - Vice-chair of the Conservative Candidates Committee

Charlotte Nichols MP - Labour Shadow Minister for Women and Equalities

Kirsten Oswald MP - SNP Westminster Deputy Leader

Sarah Olney MP - Liberal Democrat elected in 2019, and previously from 2016 to 2017.

Florence Eshalomi MP - Labour elected in 2019 for Vauxhall

Guy Opperman MP - previous Co-chair of Conservative Women to Win

Where can we post questions?

TheFleegleHasLanded · 20/04/2021 20:01

I attended a similar event last year, asked them to define ‘woman’ via the chat (very politely I might add) and was ejected from the meeting.

They're terrified of that Q, given how well it went for Jo Swinson. So instead of asking it, it's framed 'offensive' and their little bubble remains intact.

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 20/04/2021 20:20

Oh nice. Considering that we have previously had a 50:50 candidate on here who boasted on twitter about taking 'bimbo pills' to turn them into a woman, I'd like to ask them if they think someone who conflates 'woman' with 'bimbo' is a good candidate to represent women's issues.

I've asked them a similar question.

It won't get answered, I am pretty sure, but I would like it recorded that it is a question that matters to women.

It's definitely worth asking. The more of us that do, and the more we keep repeating it, the greater the (very slim) chance that they will grow a backbone and decide to represent us.
