England Rugby ignored World Rugby guidelines on transgender - survey for feedback

refusetobeasheep · 14/04/2021 11:24

World Rugby looked in depth into the issue of natal born males playing with and against natal born males and concluded it was unsafe and unfair.
England Rugby has however ignored this advice and said natal born males can play with and against natal born females if club officials deem they do not have an advantage (no scientific criteria on how to determine this)
They are asking for feedback in this survey:

Anyone can give their opinion - please do let them know whether you think this is fair or safe for our girls.

Thanks for bringing this to people’s attention OP. There’s more here:

Done. Made sure I listed all the medical reasons why it’s bloody dangerous to allow mixed sex rugby, and pointed out that referees and the governing body would be sued when women inevitably get seriously injured. Hope they ponder that, even though they obviously don’t give a shit about the women themselves.

nothingcomestonothing · 14/04/2021 20:56

Done. Those 'gender' options, urgh!

overwork · 14/04/2021 21:08

I've filled it in. I have to record my 'gender' as other mind.

YouNoob · 14/04/2021 21:18

Done and sent to friends as well.

tobee · 14/04/2021 21:22

TheTrickyWitch · 14/04/2021 22:22

I've already completed but you've just reminded me to share it with my dad so thanks!

OlafLovesAnna · 14/04/2021 22:28

Done. I also had to fill in 'other' and write woman.

🙄

I filled the correct term in the "Other" box.

For anyone who wants to fill in the survey, there’s plenty of useful points in the earlier thread linked above, and some useful information here

Fair Play for Women have some thoughts on the policy fairplayforwomen.com/rfu-transgender-policy-proposal/

The excellent and evidence based World Rugby guidelines are here www.world.rugby/news/591776/world-rugby-approves-updated-transgender-participation-guidelines

This podcast explains the World Rugby guidelines and the evidence for them play.acast.com/s/realscienceofsport/whyrugbyscontroversialnewtransgenderguidelinesmakesenseforallsportingcodes

Although this blog is about the British Cycling policy (and you can fill in a consultation on that too), Legal Feminist explains how the Equality Act applies to sports and some of the problems with the way governing bodies including the RFU are (not) applying it, leading to discrimination against women legalfeminist.org.uk/2021/04/10/single-sex-cycling/

Something particularly ridiculous in the policy (ok the whole policy is ridiculous, really) is that they reference the recent 2021 research paper by Harper et al, but this paper actually doesn’t support the policy at all. It says transwomen still have an advantage despite lowering testosterone, so they are citing a paper that says their policy is rubbish!

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 15/04/2021 08:58

The age box options !

Has anyone even proof read this?

Who knows! The idea of understanding the biology or scientific evidence behind the policy seems to have been thrown out of the window so I can't imagine proof reading is high on the priority list.

It might be worth noting that the survey records what device you use.

But, if you have other devices, it won’t recognise that you have done it previously.

Just saying...

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 18/04/2021 09:02

done. neither of my sons wants to injure a girl while playing rugby, and they sure don't want to get changed in front of one.

what utter nonsense.

NiceGerbil · 19/04/2021 01:32

DH and I both filled it in.

He used to play he thinks it's bonkers.

nettie434 · 19/04/2021 01:49

DH and I both filled it in.

I was surprised they did not ask for a name and email address. It makes me wonder if they are concerned if the same people fill it in several times. Or indeed, if a family of keen rugby fans but only one laptop can only vote once while one person with lots of devices and no interest in rugby votes several times.

I bet the results of the survey will be overwhelmingly in favour. However, they will not bother to report how votes were verified.

NiceGerbil · 19/04/2021 03:08

I don't think they'll really look at the results anyway.

I hoped that DH with a male name and who played second row (I think it's called) might get what he wrote read.

DonGray · 19/04/2021 11:58

done

Helleofabore · 27/04/2021 17:24

Thanks 334bu. I must admit after seeing the Swansea rugby study I told my teen to not do headers in football. Particularly with out proper training.

The evidence is all there isn’t it.

334bu · 27/04/2021 17:43

Yes indeed and would seem to be being totally ignored by England Rugby.

GonadTheGaul · 03/05/2021 10:05

There's still time to fill this in, the survey closes on Wednesday 5th May.
