Just linking this for anyone who didn't catch it. She joins the team for a chat at 34 mins.

She comes across as such a fantastic person. I feel ashamed that she came to this county as an experienced feminist campaigner in her own country, only to be met with the sort of misogynist abuse the UK would sneer at if it was happening anywhere else.

I have dug for her today, I think she could do with some extra help in the garden if anyone is able.

She brings the sometimes necessary outsider's view too.

Paraphrasing - "What is going on? People are upset at me for coming to your country, studying and supporting your country's existing sex protection laws, and believing they a model for my own country, which lacks them."

And the farce of disciplinary hearings deciding there was no evidence of bullying, despite those hearings themselves being cancelled three times due to security concerns. Angry

I’ve had the pleasure of hearing Raquel speak three times. She’s a marvellous young woman. I also bumped into her in a women’s loo & had a chat. She’s so lovely, if she was my daughter I would be immensely proud of her. Hoping she gets a frenzy of digging, ‘tis that time of year.

Haven't listened to this yet, but just had an email to say she's reached her target. Great news!

IDontOnlyLikeJazzFunk · 08/04/2021 17:06

I'm so embarrassed that she has been treated like this by Bristol University - great news that her fund has achieved its basic level - I've just had the email too - hooray!!

Much more digging required though I wager.

RRS comes across as admirably compassionate and rational. It's ludicrous to consider what she's been through and what she is facing.

MedusasBrandyButter · 09/04/2021 07:38

She was so lovely. Hopeful and open enough (so taken aback by the intolerance she encountered) to remind me that she's still young, but in other moments had the maturity to look beyond her own situation and ask Glinner, Helen and Arty if they were all right, if they had support. She really knows how to connect.

NecessaryScene1 · 09/04/2021 07:53

ask Glinner, Helen and Arty if they were all right

That was so lovely.

StillAFemale · 09/04/2021 14:39

Wow she’s a great speaker. I feel so embarrassed that this is what she experienced as a expert and guest in England.

pigeonontheroofagain · 09/04/2021 14:41

Well done Raquel. I hate to say but I work for a charity in the region and I can't say what I feel without getting fired. What a great woman.

Her article from 2017 is still one of my favourites. www.feministcurrent.com/2017/07/26/white-feminism-thing-gender-identity-ideology-epitomizes/

Yes this is the piece I send back to friends and family who send me youtube links to "help explain things" to me.
Going to watch the Ginner now. Thanks for posting.
