Well here's a surprise. Imran Khan has decided that the terrifying levels of sexual violence and abuse in Pakistan are not men's fault. It's the vulgarity of women.

There was an article years back in (I think) the New Yorker by (I think) George Packer (or George Saunders? George Somebody-or-other) after a few years of Iraq War. The author was visiting a Baghdad hospital, and the doctor was bemoaning the fact that they used to have a whole floor for virginity testing women. But all that was gone, and that was why Iraq was in such a dreadful state.

An unimaginably unhinged antifactual mentality, but I can see how it would be comforting. All you have to do is have total control over women, which would be so good for so many reasons, and poof! all your problems go away.

Ah, the myth of the uncontrollable male libido. When my DH and I went walking in Pakistan some years ago, I, like every single other Pakistani woman I saw, dressed modestly.

But, even though I was wearing an ankle length skirt, coat, gloves, big shawl over my head, no skin showing, head down, no eye contact etc, I had to have my brother-in-law walk directly behind me on 'bottom duty' otherwise random men in the street were continually pinching my bum/trying to grope me. Grim.

So, no, not a women's (or children's) modesty issue - how dare IK victim blame - but certainly an appalling male sense of entitlement and male sexual violence problem.
