She really is trying to lose women's votes.

CharlieParley · 01/04/2021 21:14

"as a lifelong feminist" I dunno, but every time I hear that phrase I think if you have to go so heavy on reassuring people that you are something it's because your actions say otherwise.

And the First Minister's actions certainly have told us otherwise. No feminist would remain silent when female party colleagues and fellow politicians receive sustained abuse and harassment, including rape and death threats, for the crime of standing up for women's rights.

Doesn't matter how much you may disagree with those women, this is too ubiquitous a problem to ignore for any feminist, and especially one in her position - women being bullied into silence by men for speaking up for women's rights.

MichelleofzeResistance · 01/04/2021 21:27

'People who disagree are not paying attention'....

Oh dear. Grin Whose voices have you been intentionally blocking to avoid having to pay attention and listen to why they disagree? Heard of DARVO Nicola?

Biscuitsanddoombar · 01/04/2021 21:28

Woman broadcasts from sound proof echo chamber

LumpySpacedPrincess · 01/04/2021 21:30

...as a lifelong feminist I consider it proportionate and reasonable to place male sex offenders in enclosed spaces with vulnerable women.

Nah mate, just nah.

dementedma · 01/04/2021 21:31

Just when I thought I couldnt despise her any more than I already do..

aliasundercover · 01/04/2021 21:36

Sturgeon is making Salmond look like a reasonable option - you have to be dismal to achieve that.

ArabellaScott · 01/04/2021 21:48

So, what has she done for feminism, being one of the most powerful women in the country? If she's been a 'lifelong' feminist, I expect she has a good solid history of advocating, awareness raising, working to help other women, yes?

Or is she just a 'feminist' in the sense that she's happy to take advantage of the gains made by other women who sacrificed their time/safety/reputations in order for her to have the freedom/right/ability to become a successful, powerful woman?

And she is happy to ignore rape and death threats if she feels the women on the receiving end are a threat to her professional reputation. Happy to dismiss the concerns raised by so many women. Happy to patronise us with a 'consultation' that is in fact intended to 'convince' us of her preconceived outcome.

Sturgeon is a skilled politician. But I wasn't aware feminism was something she actively supported.

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 01/04/2021 21:53

Sturgeon is making Salmond look like a reasonable option - you have to be dismal to achieve that.

Aye. Dismal is about right.

And this

I think if you have to go so heavy on reassuring people that you are something it's because your actions say otherwise

Aye. Lifelong feminist my arse. I’ll bet she cant even claim it for a week.

Maduixa · 01/04/2021 22:10

Gloria Steinem: We must fight against the all-powerful nefarious women who co-opt “the feminist label” to spread hatred and division by suggesting sound policy alternatives, pointing out inconsistencies in the law, and imagining they have the right to be heard without a flurry of life-disrupting rape and death threats. And by the way, some other long-debunked random racist nonsense.

Nicola Sturgeon: Hold my beer…

Can April Fools’ Day please just be over, already?

ArabellaScott · 01/04/2021 22:12

Off of her wiki:

'Sturgeon has also campaigned on women's rights and gender equality, and is a self-described feminist; she has argued that Scotland's feminist movement is not simply symbolic, but "sends a powerful signal about equality".[113] She has hailed Scottish feminist economist Ailsa McKay as one of her inspirations.[114]'

No references to those campaigns. I would be interested to see info on them.

ArabellaScott · 01/04/2021 22:14

Oh, here is something.

A feminist campaign that is a whole 5 hours old.

WhereYouLeftIt · 01/04/2021 22:18

“There are many women, and I understand this, who see that as some kind of threat to women's rights and what I would say is that I absolutely, as a life-long feminist, would never support anything that I thought was a danger or a risk to women's rights.”

What a fucking liar you are, Nicola.Sad

ArabellaScott · 01/04/2021 22:19

And an article I can't access, unfortunately.

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/nicola-sturgeon-isnt-the-feminist-shed-have-us-all-believe-p0qssjvwh

Funny, that Sturgeon is talking about feminism, isn't it? Almost like she's noticed she's managed to give half the population the fucking rage just weeks before an election.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/04/2021 22:22

She's really not any sort of feminist.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/04/2021 22:23

There's an amazing feminist movement in Scotland from what I can see. She's just not any part of it.

Babdoc · 01/04/2021 22:24

Sturgeon is a narcissist. As is Salmond. Two cheeks of the same arse, as they say up here. I doubt she gives a shit about feminism - she wouldn’t have chucked women’s rights under the bus if she did.
She is just trawling for woke cookies and trying to look more progressive and trendy than England.
I hope her latest anti women policies, following her party’s failures on education, business, health, agriculture and the economy, will at last persuade people to stop voting for the SNP and their ridiculous suicide plan of independence.

Griefmonster · 01/04/2021 22:25

“But what I don't say and I've never said, is that anybody who is raising concerns is by definition transphobic, because I don't believe that is the case.”

BetsyM00 · 01/04/2021 23:03

Thanks Arabella, I missed that Times article.

Archive of it: archive.ph/sV02P

ArabellaScott · 01/04/2021 23:14

Ah, perfect, thanks Betsy.

OneBlinky · 01/04/2021 23:21

Scottish women are very strong; they've had to be over the years and they've taken their strength to many parts of the world- this horrible excuse for a women needs to be discarded as you would discard a disloyal friend. She is no friend of women anywhere in the world.

Summerdayshaze · 02/04/2021 00:33

Loathsome woman. Charmless, dictatorial, patronising, no friend of anyone.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 02/04/2021 09:43

She is such an idiot. Chasing votes - but does she not realise that twitter and Facebook isn’t full of voters?

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 02/04/2021 10:25

Feminist? Aye right!

She’s not a feminist & she doesn’t give a fuck about the women & girls of Scotland Sad

toffeebutterpopcorn · 02/04/2021 10:30

‘If she’s a feminist, my arse is grass’ (is that the expression - I seem to remember it from my youth)
