Help needed with terfisaslur website

Hi mumsnetters,

I'm new to this board but I'm hoping some of you may be able to help me. I run the terfisaslur.com site and after years of neglecting it, I'm finally getting round to updating it so that it continues to be useful.

I've got a full time job and small kids, so it's a huge job to keep on top of. It would be really helpful if people could send me either links or screenshots to things they think should appear.

The general categories are:
violent threats and violent imagery
abuse, harassment and dehumanizing language
erasing female biology
centering trans women in feminism and women's spaces
cotton ceiling
autogynephilia

I have updated the first two categories recently, but the rest are now quite out of date. And I'm sure things have only got worse in that time, not better! So if you know of anything I'm missing that it would be good to include, please would you either email them to me, or send me a DM on twitter?

Email: [email protected]
twitter: @schmendergender

Thanks so much in advance!

You could also link to a number of other sites:

And "This Never Happens" on Facebook.

someone randomly rock up and demand you do their research for them.

Seriously? You randomly rocked up and made a website for us.

And all we got you was this silly flower emoticon: Flowers

And this thread with other examples of official bodies recognising it as derogatory.

@NecessaryScene1 @MeltsAway thank you both!

I've been feeling guilty for years about it being dormant so I've spent the last couple of days wading through TRA twitter and it's pretty bleak. I got to the point where I stopped grabbing tweets of people calling TERFs cockroaches, because there were so many. Same with the tweets about choking on cock, dying in a fire, etc.

TRAs insist it isn't a slur, and then tweet stuff about TERFs being vermin and filthy and needing to be eradicated. Anyway, the best argument I can see for it being a slur is how desperate they are to hold on to the word, how very emotionally attached to the word they are, the visceral hold it has. They know it's a slur, they enjoy spitting it at us, and that's why they want to keep saying it. If it was a neutral descriptor, as they claim, they would willingly use a different one.

Whoever the person was who said someone at work had called them a TERF: I would be making an HR complaint about that person. It's a term of abuse, it's associated with dehumanising and violent rhetoric, and it's designed to intimidate you into shutting up.

Well, either you exclude trans women from the category "woman" or you don't. If you do, you are by definition "trans exclusionary".

Almost all English-speakers use the word 'woman' to mean adult human female, thus excluding males from that category. It's just the same as when I use the word 'banana' to signify a yellow-skinned fruit shaped like a boomerang. If I tried to say 'banana' also means round crisp fruits with red or green skin, nobody would know what I was talking about.

This is how definitions work. When a word comes into being, people agree on what it will be used for. Without that, communication is impossible.

From time to time, meanings of words change. This only happens if enough people start using the word in a new way. Sometimes we lose a useful word as a result. Let's hope it doesn't happen here.

For anyone employed.

The Terf is a Slur website (and threads on here) are fantastic resources if you should ever find yourself labelled with the slur "terf".

They go a way to establishing to employers and Courts what the meaning of the term is; how it is sexist (and also racist and homophobic) and the type of people who use the expression.

Courts (Employee tribunal Courts) are still running.

There are a couple of threads here which are solely resource/capture threads, displaying the words of MRAs/TRAs/Incels (No discussion)

If you come across sexist/misogynistic/racist/lesphobic/homophobic/religious misogynistic posts - post them there.

No problem, genderschmender, it's an excellent resource and I look forward to it being updated.

Terranean · 26/03/2021 23:05

It’s great you are doing this @genderschmender. Have you got Magdalen Berns videos? There is one on Queen of Terfs!

I see nobody is buying that old Tory mattress that someone was trying to sell earlier.

Thank you for your fantastic work @genderschmender, next time I come across it I will send it over.

Sadly I've seen nothing but it's use as a slur on reclaim these streets. It's pure misogyny.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 27/03/2021 08:28

It's not a slur though. No more than racist or bigot are.

It fully meets the definition of a slur, Hibari, whatever your personal thoughts on the matter. Not believing males are actually female on their say so is not really like racism, is it?

An insinuation or allegation about someone that is likely to insult them or damage their reputation.
‘the comments were a slur on staff at the hospital’

More example sentencesSynonyms
1.1A derogatory or insulting term applied to particular group of people.
‘a racial slur’

Like it is a misogynistic slur for women you don't agree with.

Fascinating how often we come across those who would police our pronoun use, but at the same time insist that terf is a harmless descriptive term...

langclegflavoredbananamush · 27/03/2021 09:25

oh, and genderschmender your work has been so valuable to so many of us! Many many thanks!

Yup. Like the desperation to keep using it doesn't stand out a mile.
