Former Jersey Education and Children's Minister bailed following arrest

Jersey's former Education and Children's Minister has been released on bail pending further enquiries following his arrest yesterday.

I'm trying to find out more about this story, but details are scarce. Jeremy was 'relieved of his ministerial duties' by the Chief Minister and questioned over "serious" allegations.

I've put this in FWR because the official statement issued mentions the safeguarding and wellbeing of children remains a top priority. Why would they say that?

I saw documentary about the Haute de la Garonne scandal and the response was horrific. I just hope whatever the allegations that justice is done.

I'm expecting this thread to be zapped, but I couldn't see the news anywhere else on Mumsnet. The story nearly slipped me by.

This is interesting. I have a friend who was brought in to Jersey a few years ago, to try to sort out a safeguarding issue (not about this minister - I can't say exactly what as don't want to out her). She was so appalled by what she found that she resigned and was actually quite traumatised by it. This is someone who has dealt with the most serious CSE and abuse for her whole career, including some high profile UK cases, but she said she had never had to work against so many vested interests, determined to protect the abuser. I'm guessing Jeremy was enabled by this environment.

Cuthbert and Miss disturbing.

I know there will be reporting restrictions, but the quiet around this, coupled with historical events and the mention of child safeguarding, is leaving me feeling very uneasy.

I immediately thought of Haute de la Garonne.

Jersey is very small and I suspect the people who run the police, governing bodies etc all know each other very well indeed.

I'll leave that there.

Yes. This is reflected in the local news coverage.

The Deputy in question, Jeremy Macon, is too young to have been involved in Haute de la Garonne. I think this relates to something else.

NiceGerbil · 25/03/2021 20:42

Not involved directly, sure.

OhHolyJesus · 25/03/2021 21:22

He's been there a month as education minister. One month! Do they not do DBS checks (or the equivalent in Jersey) for ministerial positions?

HandsOffMyRights · 25/03/2021 21:26

One month? Christ.

It was a promotion from previously held posts but still. He was in a primary school in January when the schools there were open.

Here is one of his likes in FB

Is this him in the gold shorts?

NiceGerbil · 25/03/2021 21:55

So he's gay?

I think this thread will go.

Not sure why it's being raised. Gold shorts and clubbing don't seem particularly relevant to me.

OhHolyJesus · 25/03/2021 22:01

It's from a fetish club night, that doesn't make it relevant. Just saw it on the link above. Not sure if it's the same guy but all in the public domain and kinda looks a bit like his profile pic on his Facebook which is open.

NiceGerbil · 25/03/2021 22:14

But why these posts? I don't get it.

I don't really care what he looks like or that he's gay/ etc.

Although admittedly it's a bit odd to have pics like that in the public domain if you're a politician but that's another thread.

I'm interested in what he's done.

OhHolyJesus · 25/03/2021 22:23

It just shows what he's into.

He's a politician with remit involving children who is into fetish related clubbing and clothing (the Bobo Bear things has pup play graphics and the Thicc club connects to Thicc Pup Apparel), who has been arrested and sacked.

I don't care if he's gay I care about what he's done but we're not going to hear the details for a while.

HandsOffMyRights · 25/03/2021 22:47

The thread probably will go.

I care about what he's accused of and the mention of child safeguarding in the statement.

I do think public the links and pics are relevant, given his position.
