Year 8 Hpv vaccination form gender not sex

Just consented for my daughter to have the vaccination. It's an online form. Question 2 what is your gender?
Male
Female
Unspecified

I put unspecified for my daughter as she has no gender. Had a little rant in the section asking if there would be anything to make the vaccination difficult.

Surely for scientific reasons you need to know the sex at birth of those getting vaccinations. Male and females may react differently.

Is this with Virgin Healthcare? I wrote to them about this last year and got a load of meaningless fartwaffle back.

I might chase up again now.

What a pointless question if you can answer 'unspecified'. Hmm

No it was via the NHS you get a school code then it sends you to digital communication company. You could get extra information from the School Nurse website. If I have time and energy I will write to the school nurse site.

Yes, "unspecified", very baffling!

What is your gender? I think I'd answer "irrelevant", then suggest they ask about sex next time.

Rickpulltop · 24/03/2021 23:17

I've seen a lot of these recently and have started answering unspecified or prefer not to say. I was always one to fill in the sex question fully before as it's important to have this data but it has become meaningless now

ArabellaScott · 24/03/2021 23:19

Yes, I always go for the 'other' choice and write 'sex female' or similar.

Rickpulltop · 25/03/2021 00:59

I'm waiting for the realisation to dawn that they're getting less and less usable data

BoomBoomsCousin · 25/03/2021 04:14

Don't they need a reason to collect each piece of data?

What use can the NHS have for someone's gender in this situation? Sex would speak to whether the person should receive the vaccination or not. Gender is irrelevant.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 25/03/2021 07:11

Boys also receive this vaccine now, so it's not a case of whether they should receive it or not. My boys missed out as they're a couple of years older.

FemaleAndLearning · 25/03/2021 09:55

Yes they vaccinate both sexes, but if they don't collect this data accurately and there is an adverse reaction on boys of a certain batch of vaccine for example they won't know who to tell! Or being able to monitor the success of the vaccine long term on the sexes.

I crossed gender out and changed it to sex. How can a medical form have gender on it and not sex. I work for the NHS and can't believe they have been captured.
