At last the influence of the porn industry on young men is being realised and spoken about
I’m so glad teenagers are now speaking about it and have found support in each other and sharing their experiences

It's an epidemic and I don't know how it can be controlled as violent porn is so easy to watch

flyingfoxkins · 19/03/2021 13:46

Laura Bates - Men who Hate Women is good on how boys are groomed online and through porn to despise and objectifwomen.

As a young lad growing up in the mid sixties, only porn was on the top shelf of small newsagents, and heaven help you if you were caught glancing upwards at that. Then you had the Star and Sun with topless models.
But now in the digital age, anything and everything is available.
That is a problem because that will lead to addiction. I have never smoked or gambled, never had an affair, like the odd glass of red wine though.
I am glad that I lived through much simpler times, because it must be very difficult for boys and girls growing up in a World where seemingly nothing is off limits.

AvocadoBathroom · 20/03/2021 14:26

Nothing is off-limits and the categories would make most people shocked.

SmokedDuck · 20/03/2021 17:57

The age thing is so important because if they are addicted before they are old enough to really think through the implications, they often won't think them through later on.

Or if they do they are still going to struggle to stop.

HeadPain · 20/03/2021 19:06

Yep

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 20/03/2021 19:14

Well yes. No argument from me. How do we stop it affecting our young daughters' lives, though, is the most important question I have?

WoolOfBat · 20/03/2021 19:26

I also want to know how we can help our daughters. It seems to be a terrible world out there.

I am trying to make sure that our girls have a really good relationship with their dad and with their brother. I think that girls who are used to be treated well by the boys and men in their lives are more outraged if someone treats them badly. Regardless in what way.

I am also raising my son to be extremely kind to girls. I tell him that he needs to be kind to all girls and treat them as he would like for his sisters to be treated by his friends. He is still little but I am hoping that he will be one of the good ones. Any suspicion that he isn’t and he will be grounded indefinite. With no access to WiFi. And I tell him that already.

When they are older I will have the porn discussion with them. I am fairly confident that they haven’t been exposed yet and want to let them be children a bit longer.
