Excuse me, I'm ill today (in bed) and quite feverish so this may be a bit rambly! Also explains why I've spent ALL DAY reading around Twitter with some (pleasant) shock, and a lot of hope.
It looks like the vital distinction between Sex vs Gender is finally entering the parliamentary arena. Various tweets swirling around the debate had in the House of Lords on 'misogyny as a hate crime', and inluding a discussion of the relevance of sex vs gender.
As far as I can make out (misinformation everywhere!) the House agreed to collect data on SEX as a trial, with further consultation needed about what to do with gender. I think it is a step forward that they are acknowledging the difference instead of lumping 'sex/gender' together as if they are the same.
Some on Twitter (and reportedly news articles although I haven't seen this myself yet) are either refusing to see this distinction in the discussion today, or deliberately trying to smudge it.
