@Delphinium20

I'm shocked *@lionheart* ! This is the first Democrat I've heard of to weigh in
I think Tulsi Gabbard said something recently.

Thanks for the videos, will watch them all.

Testifying for republicans while claiming to "just have concerns."

Working with the people who want to ban abortion. Ya. Great. Good standards. 100% feminist position.

AS’s position on this IS the only feminist position - protecting the sports, safe spaces, definition of women and girls in law and to support young girls to grow up with their bodies, sexual functions and fertility intact.

Fortunately for the rest of us, we are quite capable of dealing with the multiple issues that seek to destroy women’s rights on their individual and distinct merits. The democrats - apart from a very few notable exceptions- have NO moral high ground on this one.

What’s the point of decrying the Republican’s view on abortion if you support the activists agenda to remove the reproductive capability of girls - rendering their need for abortion obsolete.

I am very happy in my 100% Feminist position thanks.

What a bizarre post.

I have just shared the YouTube clip of Abigail on Facebook.

Feeling pretty brave - have several colleagues who are my friends on Facebook.....

Have had a few replies so far - all absolutely supportive....

@FindTheTruth

one raped a woman on arrival. I'm so angry I can barely speak

I hope that American women are organised and mobilising on this legally and in every way they can.

is there the American equivalent of FPFW? Legalfeminist?

@AlwaysTawnyOwl

Immediately after the Washington Correctional Facility voted to allow transwomen into womens prisons, 6 transferred and one raped a woman on arrival. I'm so angry I can barely speak. This is how much women matter - served up to abusive men.
Really awful

I listened to Abigail on an interview and so knowledgeable

She has really done such a lot of research into this and knows what she is talking about

334bu · 20/03/2021 08:49

Senator asking " how many sexes are there?" Answer would be hilarious if it weren't actually terrifying.

OP posts:
littlbrowndog · 20/03/2021 08:51

I know aye

It’s like asking is the world flat

Justhadathought · 20/03/2021 08:51

Are there really no democrat voters or politicians who are speaking out about this? I find it difficult to believe that there cannot be people across the U.S political spectrum without the same concerns we have here in the U.K.

I know that political parties can, and do, exert a strong whip-line, on members, and as such MP'S are compelled to hold the party line, and that speaking out contrary to that line takes a bravery and integrity - that few seem unwilling to risk.

The extreme polarisation in U.S politics seems to be used as a tool to shame and intimidate those that speak out. The accusation that you may be 'colluding' with 'right wing fascists' seems pretty effective in bringing most people back into line.

It has all the hallmarks of totalitarianism when people in position of power and responsibility cannot speak out, or voice concerns on issues.

Justhadathought · 20/03/2021 08:52

The cognitive dissonance is spectacular. It really is 2 + 2 = 5 isn't it?

I've yet to see anyone/any politician who, when questioned, does not simply repeat the lines and mantras without that frozen/ paralysed look of befuddlement.

Saw this on another thread. Seems appropriate here.

I'm sure that she would presented evidence for any political party.

However, this issue does demonstrate that both parties are innately sexist, just in different ways.

That is probably why the US has such an atrocious record on women's rights.

MichelleofzeResistance · 20/03/2021 09:57

It is now starting to shift openly to "yes it disadvantages female humans, but it's more important to be kind to and enable those male humans." Females being some sort of social justice sacrifice and tweets there trying to argue a social duty for females to give up their rights gladly for the better happiness of males.

We're straight back to an accident of biology creating two classes of human. one who gets, one who gives. One who has rights, one who might get some of the bits that are left over if she's a really good girl.

Sexism is a Good Thing and Kind And All Nice People Do It.

This isn't the gotcha you think it is.

Just because she's said what she said to Republicans doesn't imply she's pro abortion or that what she's said will on any way affect abortion rights.

Most Republicans also believe the earth is round. Should we ignore everything they say on that basis too?

Why not make a sensible response to her testimony rather than what is essentially an ad hominem, empty comment?

Abigail Shrier has balls of steel and all power to her for her eloquent testimony.

adviceseekingnamechanger · 20/03/2021 10:41

Sorry my autocorrect changed it - should read doesn't mean she's pro anti-abortion

UppityPuppity · 20/03/2021 10:41

yes it disadvantages female humans, but it's more important to be kind to and enable those male humans

But the double whammy of disadvantage and unkindness to female humans is unmentionable and irrelevant.

MichelleofzeResistance · 20/03/2021 11:15

We're in fact circling back to this is the natural, born lot of female humans and good female humans embrace and enable their own oppression.

Nice girls put other people first.

Sexism on crack.

MichelleofzeResistance · 20/03/2021 11:18

...actually no, sorry, bad phrasing.

Nice female humans put other people first. This isn't a virtue transgirls are expected to conform to, or would be seen as reasonable to ask of them.

Delphinium20 · 20/03/2021 16:34

Are there really no democrat voters or politicians who are speaking out about this? I find it difficult to believe that there cannot be people across the U.S political spectrum without the same concerns we have here in the U.K.

Pretty sure if they are aware, they are scared shitless of not towing the party line. Please, please remember that Trump was so bad that almost all Democrats in leadership agreed to set aside differences and rally behind Biden and the Dem party line so they could win back the country- and I, like the majority of Americans, saw this as a fight for democracy, not just for party. They are still fresh from that so infighting is really frowned upon at this time.

I'm personally hoping that when they get to the business of the ERA, it will enshrine sex-based protections into the constitution which can override this Act when brought to court. Not all American feminists agree with me on this, but it's what I'm hoping will work.

The second thing that could happen would be for this Act to be amended to only include housing and employment discrimination (Schrier noted this would be something she would 100 percent agree on)...making clear exceptions for religion and sex. This is a likely scenario, because to pass it, they need 60 votes which they don't have as it's now written.

And let's be honest, the GOP is primarily rejecting this bill because they can always rile up their base claiming progressives are trying to destroy Christianity Confused

Delphinium20 · 20/03/2021 16:44

The other important mistake of this bill, however, is completely overlooked.

Sexual orientation.

Religion nor sex-based spaces should discriminate against bi, lesbians or gay men. If this bill ONLY uses sexual orientation as the class that deserved these specific protections, it would be a laudable bill. But it's that tricky and undefinable "sexual identity" that has encroached into the language of the 21st century that now has reasonable people obfuscating about how many sexes there are and dismissing data of male-pattern violence against women. Sexual identity should be classed under religion because that is what is is.

abigailshrier.substack.com/p/why-i-testified-before-the-us-senate?r=4ggtz&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&utm_source=copy

'Last week, I did something I’ve never done before and hope never to do again: I testified before the United States Senate. I don’t particularly like public speaking, and I loathe traveling for work, away from my family. But I paid for my own ridiculously expensive ticket and boarded a plane, all because a very bad bill—the Equality Act—had sailed through the House; it seemed about to become law. Women were on the verge of losing the entire edifice of girls’ sports opportunities and protective spaces without much of a fight.'

Delphinium20 · 23/03/2021 20:52

She's like the lone voice outside the GOP who both cares about trans kids AND knows the dangers to women and girls.
